Gillberg fought hard to prove his worth to the Warrior, but his Spear and Jackhammer attempts met with no success. Utilizing his usual repertoire of clotheslines and punches, the Warrior overpowered Gillberg then finished him off with a flying shoulder-tackle and splash. After the match, however, Warrior continued his attack on the obviously injured Gillberg. After numerous body splashes, it was clear that Gillberg was not moving, and the referee attempted to revive him. As the Warrior left the carnage of the ring area, the fans voiced their overwhelming disapproval of his actions. The Rock defeats the Brooklyn Brawler via disqualification The Rock came down to the ring first; ready to fight Kurt Angle, the man who cost Rock a victory at the Royal Rumble and the opportunity to compete for the title at Wrestlemania. When Kurt came out, however, he had a neck brace on and walked to the ring with much difficulty. Getting on the mic, the Olympic hero announced that although he would have loved to tear Rock apart, he couldn’t compete because a spine-buster slam from the Rock had injured his neck on Smackdown! Kurt did have someone the Rock could fight, however, Kurt’s protégé, the Brooklyn Brawler. The Rock dominated the Brawler as Kurt Angle watched from the outside. After a spine-buster and the Rock Bottom, Rock set up the Brawler for the People’s Elbow. Bouncing off the ropes, however, Rock was met with a devastating chair shot from Angle! The ref saw it and disqualified the Brawler immediately, but the Brawler and Angle went to work double-teaming the Rock after the match. It was clear that Angle’s neck was not injured at all, and he ripped the useless neck brace off of his neck! Then Kurt put the Rock in the devastating Angle lock, twisting Rock’s ankle until it sickeningly snapped! Kurt and Brawler left the ring with the Rock totally devastated. Although he was technically the winner, Rock had clearly lost this battle. Triple H defeats Sycho Sid via pinfall In a brutal match between two bitter rivals the action was heated to say the least. The two combatants fought back and forth, Sid scoring with an amazing vertical suplex, Helmsley turning the tide with some European knees. Eventually Sid took control and attempted to finish off Triple H with a powerbomb. The Game countered, slamming his head upwards into Sid’s crotch! Triple H then delivered the Pedigree, but was too exhausted to make the cover right away. Finally rolling over his opponent, Triple H got a long two count, but Sid barely kicked out. While the two men struggled to their feet, the referee administered a ten-count, and out to the ring walked none other than Matt Hardy! Sid was clearly distracted, but locked up with Triple H again. Attempting an Irish whip, Sid was reversed and sent into the ropes near Hardy. The Surge grabbed Sid’s ankle, stopping the big man, who unsuccessfully reached for Matt. With his opponent confused, Triple H snuck up behind and rolled the big man up, scoring the pinfall! An infuriated Sid quickly left the ring, chasing the Surge to the backstage area as Triple H celebrated to the crowd! Backstage, the cameras picked up the chase as Matt led Sid into the parking lot. Matt jumped in a waiting Hummer Limo, only to jump out the other side. Sid followed, but found himself locked in the Limo! Matt gave a signal and the massive Hummer Limo screeched away, leaving the Surge alone in the parking lot. After the Limo disappeared, the camera panned back to Matt, who was still there laughing. Coming right up to the camera, Matt sent a mocking message to his brother, “Hey Jeff, good luck in your match tonight!” Meanwhile, the Rock was being tended to in the back. Clearly, his ankle was in bad condition. Lucas approached him and asked, “Rock, you’re all hurt and stuff. What’s the dilly-yo with that?” Rock grabbed the mic and sent a clear message to the Olympic champion. He wanted to fight Kurt Angle in a Brahma Bull Strap match at Wrestlemania. From the looks of the People’s Champ, he wasn’t going to take no for an answer! |
