Rumble Elimination Qualifying Match:

Stone Cold Steve Austin
v. Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase
v. Gangrel
v. Val Venis
Although Superstars were forced to draw their Rumble entry numbers early this year, none of the entrants’ picks have been divulged.  That is, of course, with the exception of 4 men who drew ??’s instead of numbers.  These four men were Val Venis, Shawn Michaels, Gangrel, and the Rattlesnake himself:  Stone Cold Steve Austin.  The reason for these ??’s was because of a mistake WWF officials made by promising 33 competitors Rumble bids when everyone knows only 30 men are allowed each year to participate in the Royal Rumble Match.  One number was randomly taken out of the field of 30, and the winner of this elimination match will receive that number in the Rumble.  This has all four men involved in the match upset.  As a matter of fact, Shawn Michaels was so upset he begged and pleaded with his associate Ted Dibiase to trade his Rumble pick for the ?? he had drawn.  Since Dibiase claimed to be the greatest manager ever he agreed to trade thus prompting Dibiase into the 4-way match in place of Michaels.  These 4 unfortunate warriors will be forced, this Sunday, to not only endure the agony of an hour long Rumble Match, but also a 4 way elimination match in which they only have one chance out of four in even making it to that Rumble Match.

Should Val Venis make it into the Rumble Match it is to be assumed that he has the tools to take him to victory.  Although he hasn’t held any titles lately, that may just be inspiration enough to get Val to concentrate on winning that elimination match and then stand tall at the end of the Royal Rumble for a shot at The Federation Championship at Wrestlemania!

Who can forget the legendary feud between Gangrel and the current WWF Champion:  The Undertaker from a few short months ago?  If Gangrel can be a thorn in the side of the would-be champion he can sure as hell be a thorn in the 29 other combatants’ sides if he wins this qualifying match.  His intensity and eeriness is unmatched by few and if he goes on to win the Royal Rumble the WWF could be looking at one demented individual as its Champion after Wrestlemania.

The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase is one of the great legends still competing here in the World Wrestling Federation.  Although he has never won the Federation Championship, he has come oh-so close on numerous occasions.  By giving up his random pick to Shawn Michaels and accepting his role in this four way elimination match, it is assumed that Dibiase has the least to lose, which may prove to be an advantage or a disadvantage for him.  Should he win, however, all the other 29 men in the Rumble match, including his own Wolfpack buddies had better be on the lookout!

It seems none is angrier about drawing the pick to fight in this qualifying match than Stone Cold Steve Austin himself.  Last year the Rattlesnake did not have his greatest year and as a result, he finds himself at the bottom of the WWF totem pole.  What a greater way to propel himself back to the top than to win the Royal Rumble for the 4th time!  Although he hasn’t had the greatest luck with winning lately, Austin is the favorite of many to win this qualifying match, and who knows, if the mystery entry number is high enough, Austin may be standing a four-time winner of the Royal Rumble!  In that case, whoever is WWF Champion at Wrestlemania had better say his prayers!
