This match was signed after Triple H defeated X-Pac in the final of their string of battles last month at In Your House: Right Nextdoor To Hell to earn the #1 contention for Jeff Hardy’s Intercontinental Championship. For months now, Jeff Hardy has been able to slither and slip by opponent after opponent
when it comes to his title reign. It seems as if ever since he and his brother Matt ended their once awesome tag team alliance Jeff has pulled out all the stops to climb to the top of the WWF singles ladder. Although the majority of his victories in the recent past have been tainted with interference from Jeff’s BIG buddy, Sycho Sid, he must be given credit for staying atop his pedestal. Now it’s time for Triple H to step up to the plate. And speaking of being up on a pedestal, Triple H, who is also on a hott streak of late, will attempt to channel his new-found aggression this Sunday, and in doing so he has a great shot in many peoples’ view of becoming the next Intercontinental Champion.

Although mainly a high-flyer, Jeff is going to have to concentrate on working Triple H down. Triple H has proven in the past that he can hang with high flyers and, in most cases, use his amazing power to counter those high flyers’ moves. Triple H had better hope, however, that Sid is busy preparing for his WWF Championship match during this battle, because if Sid is looming around ring-side then it will be just one more obstacle that Triple H must overcome. Jeff Hardy, although small compared to Triple H, must not be underestimated. Anybody that can hold onto a title for six months in this day and age has to be a talented performer. As a matter of fact, way back at the WWF King of The Ring last June, Jeff managed to beat Triple H in a Quarter Final match before eventually becoming the runner-up for the crown after losing to his brother, Matt!

During the last month on Raw and Smackdown! the trash talking and mind-games between these two individuals has escalated beyond belief and at the Royal Rumble there may be more than just the Intercontinental Title on the line! Along with the chance to walk away with the Intercontinental Title, both competitors must also remember that they will be part of the huge Royal Rumble match later that night. Many feel that these two are among the favorites to walk away the winner of the annual 30 man match. It’ll be interesting to see if either of these men attempt to conserve their energy in the interest of a World title shot or if this match is going toend up an all-out war! Either way this will no doubt prove to be the greatest Intercontinental Championship match in a long time!
