WWF Heavyweight Championship Match: Challenger: Sid v. Champion: Undertaker |
The Royal Rumble Match itself is to decide which Superstar out of 30 will fight for the richest prize in sports entertainment today at Wrestlemania. The other half of that Wrestlemania equation might very well be answered in this match as Sycho Sid attempts to de-thrown the Man From the Darkside. In Royal Rumble’s past, the man who walks out from the title match as champion has tended to pull out all the stops to remain champion until the grand spectacle, Wrestlemania. It must first be noted that the two men in this match are unmatched in power. This will without a doubt prove to be one of those classic “the unstoppable force meets the immoveable object” matches! Ever since his return to the World Wrestling Federation back at Summerslam (then known only as The Masked Man) Sycho Sid has been literally undefeated. His record has been unblemished in every singles match, every tag-team match, and EVEN in the WWF Survivor Series when he was named the Sole Survivor of the night! And those victories were not obtained by any easy means considering they include wins over the Big Show, King of the Ring: Matt Hardy, and the Ultimate Warrior among others! Although he has received much help from his dubious ally, and Intercontinental Champion, Jeff Hardy, how can the fact that a force such as Sid has been undefeated, by all definitions of the word, for four whole months be overlooked! On the other hand, however, the Lord of the Underworld, the Undertaker, has been undefeated in singles competition since last year’s Wrestlemania when he made his re-birth and took the WWF by storm! After plowing through an endless list of competitors and foes including his brother Kane, Gangrel, the deranged Mankind, Shawn Michaels, and even the Rock, the Undertaker finds himself at the peak of his career. Will this match prove to be the cross roads in the Undertaker’s tear of destruction? If last November’s Survivor Series title match in which the Undertaker captured the WWF Championship from the Rock was considered the Rock’s gravest challenge, could this match be considered the Undertaker’s? With the recent pummeling of Paul Bearer by the dastardly duo of Sid and Jeff, the Undertaker will be without his “keeper” at the Rumble. At first glance this may not seem like a very big deal, however if Jeff is present at ringside, he could easily give Sid that extra advantage that could mean all the difference in the world against the Reaper. With the intense heat displayed by each competitor towards the other in the last month this match guarantees to be a match of the year candidate, and this is only the first Pay-Per-View of the year! It just puts the finishing touches on what will more than likely prove to be the greateset Royal Rumble in WWF history! Not too safely assuming that the winner of this match ends up remaining champion until Wrestlemania you almost have to feel sorry for the winner of the 30 man Royal Rumble Match…almost! |
