Who knows who’ll win? Lucas knows! by Lucas First of all I should mention that the following is an opinion piece, one that reflects the opinion of one person: me, Lucas. So when I examine this year’s field of 30 WWF Superstars I am faced with the realization that this year’s field is more competitive than any Rumble’s past. First of all it should be noted that literally ANYONE can win, because luck has just as much to do with this match as any other element, however I feel I have narrowed it down to a few favorites who I feel have the best chance of advancing to Wrestlemania XVI with a title shot. First on my list is none other than the “Big Red Machine” Kane. I mean, come on, this guy is just amazing. His power and agility for a big man are just uncanny. Kane has proven in Rumble’s past that he has what it takes to dominate, and possibly win this type of match and I feel that either Kane vs. Sid OR Kane vs. Undertaker at Wrestlemania would both prove to be blockbuster main events! My second pick goes to another huge monster in Big Daddy Cool Diesel. This big man has been on top of the hill before and he always has that WWF Title on the brain, even when it may seem as if he doesn’t. Just like Kane, Diesel has proven himself amazing in past Rumble matches. With (un-needed) help from his Wolfpack buddies Diesel’s qualifying for the main event of Wrestlemania XVI could spell certain doom for whoever the champ may be. Although my first two picks were two of the biggest in the game today, we have learned in Rumble’s past that quite often, although originally thought of as having an advantage in this type of match, the big guys for whatever reason don’t end up winning. That is why my next two picks are two of the smaller competitors in this match: Shawn Michaels and Jeff Hardy (respectively). First of all Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest icons in WWF history. He’s held the WWF title twice and has held literally every title in the WWF. I know that as fans of the WWF you’ve all heard this before, but the bottom line with Shawn is that he has the will to succeed, he’s won the Rumble twice before, and he can make any main event glisten. On to Jeff. This former tag team champion isn’t the same guy, folks. He’s meaner, tougher, and cockier than even the greatest of giants that compete here in the World Wrestling Federation, and even though he doesn’t have the size to back all that up, he does have the brains. Jeff is currently the spitting image of a young Shawn Michaels (circa 1994/95) who when he won this event, did so with the same attitude as Jeff currently holds. He’s menacing, cunning, and he has no shame in sinking to the lowest depths to get a win. Although many would disagree, I feel Jeff deserves a WWF Championship match anyway. Despite his cowardly and spiteful attacks on former partner and brother, Matt, he has held the Intercontinental Championship for six entire months and although much of his success can be linked to his “insurance policy”, Sycho Sid I feel this is criteria for a Championship Match. That extended title reign definitely says something about this young talent’s will to succeed. Anyway, back to the point, which is this Sunday’s Rumble. My final pick, as well as my odds-on-favorite to take this contest, is none other than the Big Show. There’s not really much to say about this guy other than he’s got the size and weight advantage over all 29 other participants. Not just that, he is one focused superstar. He won’t fool around in this match. Once he enters, he’s going to start throwing bodies over those ropes, and to tell the truth, I don’t see him meeting that same fate. Take it from me, Lucas, that although he will have that veritable “bulls-eye” on his chest, Big Show is gonna walk out of Trump Plaza the winner of this match. Well, those are my five picks, however I have to mention that everyone should keep their eyes on The Rock, Jeff Jarrett, The Ultimate Warrior, and Triple H in this match because I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of these guys win a title shot at Wrestlemania XVI either. In closing, don’t miss this Sunday’s pay-per-view, I promise this will be the greatest, most competitive, and most unpredictable Rumble match in Federation history... guaranteed! |
