Super Coupe

In 1978, Chrysler Corporation marketed the Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare Super Coupe using off-the-shelf components from the police car pusuit package. Wild graphics were also used in an attempt to bring the average car buyer into the showroom to buy ordinary cars.

The A67 Super Coupe option added an additional $1416.00 onto the base price. According to 1978 Sales Literature the standard Super Coupe package consists of:

  1. 318 2-bbl engine
  2. Heavy-duty suspension
  3. Space Saver spare tire
  4. Black dual remote-control painted racing mirrors
  5. 15" x 8" special wide-stance road wheels (W24)
  6. GR60 x 15" OWL radial tires - Goodyear GT Radial
  7. Black urethane painted front and rear bumpers
  8. Rear sway bar
  9. Black grill and mouldings
  10. Special Paint treatment:
RT9 Sable Tan Sunfire Metallic - Aspen
RR9 Crimson Sunfire Metallic - Volare
  11. Wheel opening flares
  12. Front and rear-deck spoilers
  13. Quarter window louvers
  14. Unique triple color body tape striping to separate the body color from the blacked-out areas:
yellow-orange, blue and brite orange - Aspen
yellow-orange, brite orange and dark red - Volare
  15. "Super Coupe" insignia
  16. Uniquely styled gas cap

Another source states that the Super Coupe package required four other madatory options. These included the power steering(S77), Power Disc brakes(B41), TorqueFlite transmission(D34) and the E58 police version of the 360-4V engine. These extra required options added considerably to the overall cost of the car.
