Hummingbird in my Hand | |||||||||||||||

May 7, 1999 While working in my office, I decided to open the back door and enjoy the fresh air and let breeze come in. A short while later I noticed a hummingbird had flown in through the door. I tried to shoo it out without effect. It was interested in the lights. As it flew around the room poking at the lights it seemed to be getting tired. When it arrived at the light over my work area it grabbed onto the end of the light fixture and soon its wings were drooping down, I snapped another photo. I then reached up and thought I would help it outside. I held onto it by its' beek, and it turned over and sat up on my hand. Again I picked up my camera and snapped another photo. I held it up a bit and could feel its' tiny little talons on my finger, then it stuck out its tongue and licked my finger. I refocused and snapped this last photo before it flew off into the sky. The feeling or thought of this event will be etched into my mind forever. What an honour it is to help out such a small creature like this. In my Coast Salish culture it is a sign of strength, and it is good luck when you see one and to hold one in your hand. Please feel free to send comments to: superdave6693@yahoo.com Thanks |
