L-188 and P-3 Orions by Klaas R. Sluijs

"To be honest, I don't have that much with the Lockheed Electra - in particular. But it is one of those big, pleasant-looking propliners that reminds me of another age of aviation. An age in which modern mass-transport was founded and facilitated. The fact that some of these aircraft are still in full operation today, is a great proof of their reliability and utility. The Lockheed Orion, developed out of the Electra, serves many Navy's around the world - the Dutch included. That gives me the opportunity to regularly see this 'ode' to the Electra, flying low along the beach or showing some manoeuvres at a Dutch airshow. Wherever I go I keep looking out for Electras and contemporaries like DC-4/-6/-7, Ilyushin-14, or Bristol Brittannia. Or are THEY just chasing ME ? Anyway, with four giant engines (lovely sound !) and rounded wings, their silhouettes are easily recognizable - and always make me happy."

Atlantic Airlines G-LOFB were taken at Coventry, UK (EGBE), August 13, 2000. The airline held a great airshow at it's 50th anniversary. Part of the show was this impressive display of the Electra.

The OE-ILA was at the Zurich Airshow was in August 1998. I flew to the event with other members of the Dutch Dakota Association, in 'our' classic Douglas DC-4. We stayed in Zurich for two days, and enjoyed the city, the lake and the show. Our DC-4 took part in the static display. It was a great weekend.
