This is a figure that I'm not ashamed to say I'm really happy with. That's possibly because she's one of my more recent works, and it usually takes me a while before I start getting overly critical, but I really am happy with this one. I find the character of Magdalena fascinating, so I was pleased to see a new mini-series come along, introducing us to the latest girl to bear the title, Patience!
The most logical choice seemed to be to work with the previous Magdalena figure, but the new costume is sufficiently different ot give me work to do. Firstly I wanted her to be able to stand next to the original and look like a different person, so the first thing I did was to shorten her legs. I often do this, pulling it off at the thigh joint, or cutting it if there isn't one, chopping a lump off (or sculpting an extra lump if I'm making someone taller) and sticking it back on. It can go wrong, and frequently does, but I'm pleased to say its basically worked here. I also replaced the head with a younger looking Rogue from the X-Men movie. Most of the costume details on the upper half are sculpted, the lower legs however remain pretty much untouched, except for the paintwork, which I have to say I'm pretty pleased with. I sculpted the hood as well, always thought it was odd the original didn't have one, and gave her a cape from one of the varients Witchblade figures, cut a little to fit the shoulders nicely! |
