THE MANY SHADES OF JORGE GONZALEZ ABOUT ME |
My artwork is my truth.
It’s an uncompromised, unhinged, and overall raw form of my deepest emotions. Each piece making various references to my past and present loves, to my history of medical problems, and to my existential war inside my lonesome head. It is something that I am not able to really control. More often than not, my artwork has been deep enough on a personal level that I don’t even want to admit to it, nor look at it. I use distorted human figures mutated with machinery and wooden parts to represent a human’s both vulnerability and destructiveness. Some people are hallow in the inside. Others are cold inside. Some are even good deep down their physical peripheral. Nevertheless, while we try our damndest to be perfect or live a certain way, things never really work out as I am sure we‘ve all would have loved them too. So amongst the ugly and deformed, exterior (or interior) within the figures I draw, there is a deep human level that I think we can all relate too. But more importantly, as I continue to do artwork it slowly follows a continuous storyline that is embedded all throughout each in and every piece. So there is an even deeper is reason why certain distorted human figures reoccur in my art as well as why I mutilate men’s gentianella. My work is often very sexual and depicts imagery of bondage, sodomy, and can be pretty much defined as pornographic. I use this device as a way for me to expose mens’ darkest intentions and bring into light how various mainstream (and underground) pornographic movies dehumanize women. Because of this, it’s no secret that we live in a patriarchal society where medieval ideologies are placed into public office and enforced in the media and schools, so of course my work can also be very political. Pieces like “War Porn” and “The Forgotten Trial of Jamie Leigh Jones” take a jab at current political celebrities as well as exposes hidden truths and issues that are covered up by the mainstream media. Consequently, while I draw my personal feelings towards old white men run the country my work also contains a lot of anti-religious metaphors and messages. With more people killing themselves in the name of a false Gods and politicians starting wars over Christian mythologies it’s hard not to express my opinion on the matter. So in the end, my work is my small way of expressing myself in a time when speaking your mind and letting others listen to you means a person needs to degrade or dehumanize themselves. My artwork is my way of fighting back. Whether I fight for myself, or against myself, or for you, or against you, or for women, or for people like me. These many shades are my own way of fighting back. These are the many shades of Jorge Gonzalez. |
