THE MANY SHADES OF JORGE GONZALEZ ARTWORK NOTES & COMMENTARY |
"A Song For Two" This drawing is my ballad for loyal lovers all over the planet. While a lot of it is rather cryptic, I tried to give it some kind of an offbeat, abstract feel to it. The female depicted in this is slightly damaged, and while she looks sad, her expression sort of seems to have a connection with the arms that are touching her. The thin, injured hands that are caressing her look very eerie, and one could view them maybe as a threat, or maybe her also defeated significant other. It could really be interpreted in many ways. But my intention was for it to be a ballad for those special couples who have been through hell and back. The young, fragile, yet faithful lovers of the world, this is for you. While plain, this is my song is for that couple the world does not appreciate. This melody is for the lovers that the planet does not care for, does not show consideration for. I drew this with them in mind. This is for the ones who have nothing left but each others warmth. Keep on defying the world and giving people hope in the true meaning of “love”. A lot of my life has changed since early 2004. I look at this piece, and while it might mean nothing to you, a lot of what I tried to draw means so much to me. Especially now. “A Song For Two” has a whole new meaning to me on a more personal level. It’s kind of funny how so much has changed over the course of two years that a drawing I did would mean so much more in the future. It was originally done for friends Kay Ciesielczyk and Colyn deGraaff, who at the time where one of those couples that continued to amaze me. With all the insanity that goes on in today‘s society, it’s great to see these two artists both continue to stand up tall and persist to face the world. But now, it has a whole new meaning to me. What I first drew then is now very representational of what my life is like. I first drew it for Kay and Colyn, but now it's more about me and her. For those closest to me, I’m sure you can see the connection I’m trying to make. The drawing itself isn’t that spectacular and has a pretty crappy rain effect, yet I personally feel the meaning of it is a lot more heavy. It’s just a loyal boy who sticks by his honesty and loyalty, and will protect, and take care of the one he loves. Originally Finished January 13th, 2004 |
