THE MANY SHADES OF JORGE GONZALEZ

ARTWORK NOTES & COMMENTARY

"Snap"

This drawing was originally going to be done in 18”x 24” paper (like a lot of my new material), but it was becoming to time consuming, and very tedious. So, I canned that idea, and decided to just do it in 11”x 14” paper (just like all the drawings in my gallery). My initial vision of
“Snap” was that it was going to be mostly an American flag, but like it is now, only.. instead of having the flag cut off towards the right, it would have been all the way through. The whole drawing was going to be centered around the American flag, and there was originally going to be more cheering hands, as oppose to the few I used in the final one. This drawing is also more straight forward, as oppose to the conceptual and abstract feel that I intend to go for. My work (as well as my latest work, which isn’t on this website) has always been religious, and political, just never as “to the point” like “Snap” is.  There are also plenty of mistakes that were done in this drawing. But, in all honesty, I didn’t draw or start this project to create the most wonderful or greatest or most supreme political drawing there ever was, but not only is that stupid, but that is not the person I am. I am not a perfect human being, nor do I consider myself an artist. I am not here to show you a glamorous picture, or do something flawless. This was done raw, bleak, but with emotion and heart. Before I continue, if anybody gets the wrong impression that I am against gays or that I have something against African Americans, then you are mistaken. Also, if you are going to get the wrong impression so easily like that, then I suggest you leave. I have nothing against gays, blacks, or any race. I am not a racist, nor do I discriminate against people. So please, don’t be offended. Since the drawing was done in 11”x 14” paper, the whole thing couldn’t fit in my scanner, so what I did was scan several sections, and paste them together in four sections using MS Paint. Needless to say, you can tell where the drawing is pasted together due to the different lighting. I did my best to try and fit it nicely, but.. you can still tell. Oh, well I suppose.

The Politics
..or lack of Politics, really. This picture resembles the frustration, the aggravation, and over all anger I felt when George W. Bush was voted for another four years this past election. I just couldn’t believe it. I was in awe that
anybody even supported something as vile as him. You have to stand back in awe at the fact that people not only empowered him the first time, but a second time. It’s just unreal. So, with this drawing, I not only take cheap shots at George Bush and his upsetting administration, but I take it out on the people that voted for him as well. So, if you are just pissing your pants in wanting to be offended by something, than I suggest you get insulted at the fact that I think anybody who voted for George W. Bush is a simple minded, ignorant, fuckin’ moron. This drawing in my insult, my “fuck you”, my middle finger, and a no holds barred to all the wrenched gun obsessed rednecks, to all the Christian fundamentalists, and the people who are trying their best to mix in government and religion. This picture is my scream, my cry, and my disease to the idiots who were fooled by this retarded fuck. I’m sorry, but Bush’s followers are just as fuckin’ dumb as he is.

Before the November election, I was always under the impression that John Kerry was the
“better of two evils”, however when he lost the election, the more I thought of it, and looked into it, it was clear that Kerry was in all honesty, the only choice. The only choice. He would have been a fantastic President. Any decent, civilized, respectable human being knew that Kerry was the best choice. He had Bush beat on every issue. He stood by giving women their right to choose what they can or can not do to their bodies, he opposed taking away funding from public schools for private and relgious schools, he was against organized prayer in public schools, and said “no” to amending the US Constitution to ban gay marriage – all of which George W. Bush supported. Bush supported giving tax cuts to the rich, and oppose to giving tax cuts to us working class. For fucks sake, Bush was against the idea of having firearm manufacturers put in safety devices on all guns! Bush even opposes required background checks on gun show purchases. To quote a friend of mine, “Doesn't mean you don't get your precious gun. It just makes sure you're SAFE enough to have a gun.” Bush was also in opposition to additional funding for higher education, which of course.. John Kerry was all up for. I strongly, without a doubt, believe that John Kerry was the best choice this country could have made in a long while. The only benefit that George W. Bush gives are to the rich and white, Christian males.

But alas, with all this said. With all the things that have happened since George W. Bush took power, no matter how much we argue that he mislead us into fighting in Iraq, or that the economy hasn’t been good lately, people still stand by his side with the
“he’s only human” quote. The American people are still caught up with their fear, glued to their right-wing media blaspheme TV, while holding their crucifix tightly in one hand, with an AK-47 on the other, and their brains still in the gutter. I still don’t know why anybody would do such a thing. Kerry was ridiculed for changing his mind, this one time (one time), and everyone jumped on the “If he changed his mind, he must be a horrible president” bandwagon, yet Bush changes has changed his mind on several dozen issues as well. Bush is a flip flopper and he’s the President. It makes me feel stupid inside to know that 51% of this country voted for this piece of shit.

But again, this is one man's opinion. No matter what or what anybody says, nothing is going change. What’s done is done, and I suppose we can all just get up and deal with this. For those of you who disagree with me, I really could careless what the fuck you think. But for those of you, the few of you, who agree with me..

..rock and roll. Keep fighting the good fight. Ask the hard questions. Stand up for what you believe in, even if the majority are willingly going to put you down. To quote one of my favorite poems:
“Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” - Dylan Thomas
