FAVORITE LOCAL TRAILS (COLUMBIA)
|
RHETT'S RUN - My favorite partly because it's only a mile or so from my house. It isn't a
long trail. I've rarely seen more than two other riders on the trail, so it isn't crowded, which is also a benefit. Only a few miles long,
but in my opinion, the most difficult trail around Columbia. This isn't due to technical singletrack, but you are
either going up, down or along an off-camber trail. Rideable a day or two after a good rain due to the steepness of
the terrain, but will still have some slick flat rocks. A Midwest Fat Tire Series race has
been held here the last few years. Connects to the new Bear Creek Trail which is a flat limestone trail that connects
Cosmo Park with Oakland Park.

ROCK BRIDGE - Where the annual Show-Me State Games MTB Race is held every year.
The trails aren't very technical, but there are some short steep hills and some areas are very rocky. There is everything from grassy open area
trails to loose rock uphills. The trails are very well maintained. The weeds are usually cut back during the summer months, but I seem to still
pick up a few ticks or chiggers. These trails are closed when wet so call 442-2249 to make sure they are open. |
THREE CREEKS - Best ridden in the Spring or Fall. It gets overgrown and tick infested
in the Summer. Horses are also allowed here so be on the lookout for them. Has one area where two creeks come together forming the third. I would
guess that this is where the name comes from. I really enjoy these trails, I just wish they didn't get so overgrown in the Summer.
several long climbs, can be very muddy after a rain. |
KATY TRAIL - Good for training rides if you don't have a road bike.
It is a Rails to Trails trail so it is long and flat. Nothing too exciting, the leg from Rocheport to Hartsburg is the most scenic. |
