1st Half

Saints started well with Marc  McCulloch hitting  an unlucky 15yrd left volley over the bar.

airdrie made a sub.  Wilson came on as player/manager Stewart limps off with an injury.

Saints continued there attack when a defensive mistake by Airdrie leaves Hartley on the right of the box. Tommy and paddy were free in the middle when the cross came in. Tommy leapt up and Headered towards goal. A paddy miss kick set Marco up for a low drive but it was blocked by an Airdrie defender.

A paddy cut back to Mark "beakie" Baxter created a clever through ball to Chris Hay he hit a shot and a block by the defender and hit back off HAy and went out for a goal kick.

Then MArk Reilly collects the ball from center of midfield and passes it out to Hartley.  Hartley crossed it in towards the back post and Tommy Lovenkrands blasts it over the bar.

John Robertson played the ball out to maxwell. Maxwell with a good strong cross gave paddy a goal with a great towering header. It looked like saints night.

Reillys through ball let Tommy and Hay through on goal. Lovenkrands cut back to give Hay a one on one chance with the keeper but sadly hit the post and bobbled wide.

A nice shimey from Hartley in his own half. He drived forward played a nice through ball to Chris hay but somehow the keeper managed to block it and the Airdrie defence clear.

2nd half

Airdrie started of the second half with a subbie. McGuire off Gow on.

Airdrie seemed to be playing far better football and it showed as Jerome Varrielles blasts home into Cuthberts net.

Straight after the kick off Paddy tried to bring saints back into the match but his left foot shot bobbled just wide of the keepers right hand post.

Marcs long range attempt found Tommy Lovenkrands and he scored with a left foot volley but the referee signaled there was a hand used.It looked like this match will go to extra time.

St. Johnstone substitution Saw Chris Hay being removed from the pitch and Kiegan Parker came on.

The last minute of the match. And saints were all over Airdrie. Hartley brought in a great corner which Paddy managed to get a header on. All the fans were stunned when it crashed the bar. Saints had to go through extra time.

Not much happened for saints in the second half. Cuthbert had some good saves but in the end it went to penaltys.

Saints won the penalty shootout 4-2 which means that they go to play Celtic in the fourth round.
