Jugglers Anonymous
My name is Spiral, and I'm a juggler.

It's true!  I'm a female juggler.  I first learned juggling from my fiance over four years ago.  It's not something I do every day, but since I work at the Ren Faires, I do it there.
In addition to doing standard three ball juggling, I'm also a proficient contact juggler. That means I can take a single ball and manipulate it over the backs of my arms in an almost hypnotic pattern.  It's also called dynamic manipulation, sphereplay, and orb rolling, but I believe it was originally called "camel backing".

You can see it below.  Contact Juggling became popularized in the movie The Labyrinth.  David Bowie does it in a couple of scenes.  The actual effects themselves were performed by Michael Moschen, widely thought of as the father of modern Contact Juggling.

CJ is usually done with acrylic, metal balls, or glass if you feel lucky.  It's a form of visual magic, and I enjoy seeing it done as much as I like to do it.  Some of my faire friends are jugglers, and are able to contact juggle up to five or six balls at once.  Sigh.  Maybe someday...

Here are a couple pics of some simple contact juggling tricks.  These are the easy type...ie, what I am capable of doing.  When I have enough money to afford media to record myself doing this, I'll do it.  Until then, I have taken video clips from the www.contactjuggling.org site to demonstrate the art.  It's a fantastic website full of folks that know way more than me.  Thanks to Marco the juggler and webmaster of CJ.org.

Don't forget to visit my links page.  There's a great resource on the History of Juggling!
