There was a time when it appeared the wrestling career of Haas would end after he graduated college. Still, the drive to wrestle was always there. Haas pursued his dream and began to hit the independent circuit, and along with his brother Russ, they established themselves as a talented tag team. Russ met an untimely death in November 2001, but this did not deter Charlie from the dream he shared with his brother. Given his first chance to shine at the highest level, Haas didn't disappoint. On the day after Christmas 2002, Haas made his debut as part of Team Angle. Teamed with partner Shelton Benjamin, the duo developed into one of the top tag teams on SmackDown. It was not long after their union that they twice captured the WWE Tag Team Championship. On a June 2003 episode of SmackDown, an angry Kurt Angle fired Haas and Benjamin from Team Angle for losing the WWE Tag Team Championship to Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri. Instead of breaking up, Haas and Benjamin stayed together and renamed themselves The World's Greatest Tag Team. The duo would prove they didn't need Angle, as they recaptured the WWE Tag Team Championship in a rematch with Guerrero & Tajiri. In 2004, Shelton Benjamin was drafted to RAW, effectively breaking up the World's Greatest Tag Team. The move forced Haas to look elsewhere for a partner. In April 2004, he became one-half of an unlikely pairing when he and the flamboyant Rico joined forces, and eventually captured the WWE Tag Team Championship. Shortly after, Haas was released, but is now back with RAW. Haas made his shocking return to WWE on April 17, 2006. When he arrived on the scene at RAW, Rob Van Dam got to pick a mystery opponent for Shelton Benjamin. The person he picked was none other than Shelton's former tag team partner Charlie Haas. The returning Haas was fired up for the match and stunned Benjamin with a rollup for the victory. The former WWE Tag Team Champion was back, and he made an impact instantly. Haas is once again determined to make an impact. With a big win over Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin, the multiple time WWE Tag Team Champion is well on his way to doing just that. |
