Height: 5’8" Weight: 202 lbs. Hometown: Othello, Washington Pro debut: June 2004 Finishing move: D.R. Driver (Double underhook piledriver), D.R. Driver II (Double underhook brainbuster), Tiger Driver '98 (Super double underhook piledriver) Career highlights: Winner of the 2006 ECWA Super 8 Tournament, NWA Canadian Tag Team Champion (w/C-Flo), PWG Tag Team Champion (2), TRW Jr Champion, 2005 Best of the West champion Trained by: WCW Power Plant & Tony Kozina Davey Richards debuted in 2004. He became known for his hard hitting, stiff style, using a variety of kicks and strikes. In 2005, he began wrestling for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, where he unmasked Puma. He would go on to face T.J. Perkins (the former Puma) in one-on-one as well as tag team contests. Richards also competed against such stars as Rocky Romero and Quicksilver. In October 2005, Richards teamed up with Super Dragon to win the PWG Tag Team Titles. They held the titles for many months, defeating teams such as Disco Machine and Excalibur, El Generico and Quicksilver, Los Luchas, the Kings of Wrestling, Arrogance, and Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles. They finally lost the titles to Arrogance (Chris Bosh and Scott Lost) in May 2006. On April 8, Richards won the 2006 Super 8 tournament. He defeated Scott Lost, Milano Collection AT, and Charlie Haas. After winning this tournament, Richards began competing in many different organizations, including NWA Anarchy, Full Impact Pro, and Ring of Honor. At Destiny on June 3, 2006, Richards made his ROH debut, defeating Jimmy Rave. This loss upset Jimmy Rave, who challenged Davey to a rematch. The rematch happened at In Your Face, but under dangerous circumstances. The pre-match ritual of fans throwing Toilet Paper at rave turned dangerous when one roll hit the chandelier above the ring, breaking some glass that scattered in the ring. The two men wrestled on that glass, which resulted in numerous cuts on both men's bodies. Even with that, Davey secured the win. On August 4th, he teamed with Pro Wrestling NOAH's KENTA to face the Briscoe Brothers, but was pinned after a Spike Jay Driller. On the 5th, Richards will go one on one with KENTA. Davey Richards has stated that his goal in wrestling is to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship, so facing a former champion KENTA will be a major step in that direction. On August 5th, Richards faced his mentor(KENTA) in a one-on-one match at Ring of Honor's "Fight of the Century" Show. Despite an excellent showing, he was unable to secure a victory, ultimately falling victim to KENTA's "Go 2 Sleep" finisher. Though impressing many, by being able to kick out of the Busaiku Knee Attack, one of KENTA's signature maneuvers, and having what many believe to be KENTA's best match on American soil. |
