WWE profile:

Edge has brought the WWE Championship back to RAW, getting the pin over Rob Van Dam after John Cena hit RVD with the FU. Although the Rated-R Superstar came out on top to claim the Championship, expect Cena to take issue with the way Edge won it. Technically, it was his FU that put RVD down for the count. Edge's Spear was never even utilized and despite being "completely unprepared for the match" there's no denying that Edge was in deed the victor.

The issue between Edge, Rob Van Dam and John Cena was supposed to come to a head at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 15, but RVD decided to put his Championship on the line in Philadelphia to prove he's a fighting champion. Now, RVD is one Championship lighter and it's the one that  the Rated-R Superstar actually helped Van Dam acquire.

During the match at ECW One Night Stand between Cena and Van Dam, Edge came in from under the ring and speared Cena through a table, helping RVD win the gold. Cena came looking for revenge the next night on RAW, but Edge was quickly disqualified and ran away through the crowd when a trio of ECW Superstars got into it with Cena.

On the June 13 premiere of ECW on Sci Fi, Edge and Lita accepted Paul Heyman's invitation to show up. Edge told Van Dam that despite his feelings on ECW, he respected RVD and it would be an honor to face him and tear the house down at Vengeance. They shook hands, but as RVD turned away, the Rated-R Superstar blindsided him with a spear before exiting through the crowd.

The next week, RVD got two measures of revenge. After Edge defeated Ric Flair on RAW, RVD ran in and nailed the Rated-R Superstar with a Five-Star Frog Splash. Edge felt that move once again the next night as well, as RVD & Kurt Angle defeated Edge & Randy Orton on ECW on Sci Fi.

It came to a head at Vengeance, where Van Dam defeated Edge to retain the WWE Championship. The next night as RVD defended against Cena, the Rated-R Superstar attacked both men, nailing Cena with an Edgecution DDT and spearing RVD. The Triple Threat Match was announced later that night, and Edge responded by once again spearing RVD on ECW on Sci Fi the next night.

Calling himself The Rated-R Superstar, Edge has evolved from a brooding, angsty enigma into one of the most successful Superstars in WWE history. Aligned with Lita since the summer of 2005, Edge isn’t afraid to say what’s on his mind, no matter how shocking or controversial it may be, and the devious pair has burned any Superstar that’s gotten in their path.

In his high school yearbook, Edge was voted Most Likely to Become WWE Champion; while that prophecy has finally been fulfilled, The Rated R Superstar won't be content with just one championship feather in his cap.

Following his graduation from high school, Edge’s road to the WWE began in 1992 when he won an essay contest in Toronto. The contest asked potential candidates why they wanted to become professional wrestlers, and his winning entry earned him the opportunity to be trained by Canadian Superstars Ron Hutchison and Sweet Daddy Siki at Sully’s Gym in Toronto.

After spending a half-dozen years on the independent circuit, Edge made his WWE debut in 1998; he quickly hooked up with Christian and Gangrel to form The Brood, and the trio was notorious for giving WWE Superstars a mysterious bloodbath. Eventually, Edge & Christian broke away from Gangrel, and after a spectacular Tag Team Ladder Match against the Hardy Boyz at No Mercy 1999, their stock began to rise.

A three-way rivalry with the Hardys and Dudleys led to the first ever Triangle Tag Team Ladder Match at WrestleMania 2000, where E&C claimed their first of seven World Tag Team Championships. Months later at SummerSlam, the sextet topped their previous milestone, incorporating tables and chairs into the equation for the first ever TLC Match.

In 2001, Edge got his first big taste of single glory, defeating Kurt Angle to win the King of the Ring tournament. Two months later at SummerSlam, he captured his second Intercontinental Championship by defeating Lance Storm. However, Christian felt slighted, and soon turned against his partner, beginning a vicious war that would see them trade the Intercontinental Championship. Edge also won the WCW United States Championship during that time, and defeated Test to unify the U.S. and Intercontinental Championships at Survivor Series 2001.

In 2002, Edge was drafted to SmackDown during the brand extension, and was quickly able to fulfill a life long dream: teaming with the Hulkster. As a youngster, Edge was a huge fan of Hulk Hogan, and was in the crowd when Hogan took on Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI in Toronto. It was fitting that on July 4, 2002, the most patriotic day in America, Edge teamed with Hogan to win the World Tag Team Championship from Billy & Chuck. Edge would later pair up with Rey Mysterio, and their wars with Los Guerreros and Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit became legendary. On Nov. 7, 2002, the pair won the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown from Angle & Benoit.

Unfortunately, Edge suffered a neck injury in early 2003 that required major surgery, and he missed 14 months of action rehabbing. Upon his return, Edge landed on RAW and defeated Kane at Backlash 2004 in his first match back. The next night, he teamed with Chris Benoit to win the World Tag Team Championship for the ninth time. Edge & Benoit would win the gold one more time at Taboo Tuesday, but under much more acrimonious circumstances. Mad that the fans had not voted him into the main event of Taboo Tuesday 2004, Edge walked out on his partner. Benoit was able to win the match on his own, but the dissension soon cost the team the gold.

From that moment on, Edge had one goal in mind that drove him to obsession: winning the WWE Championship. A now sinister Edge became consumed and ultimately corrupted to the core by his boyhood dream. Feeling “screwed” by other WWE Superstars like Shawn Michaels, the fans and other outside forces, Edge's bitterness fueled him, making him even more driven, unpredictable and desperate.

At WrestleMania 21, Edge used his newfound drive to win a Six-Man Money in the Bank Ladder Match, earning a WWE Championship match anytime before WrestleMania 22. Additionally, Edge scored another Championship match in May 2005 when he won the RAW Gold Rush tournament, defeating Kane after his Lita betrayed her husband and joined up romantically and strategically with Edge.

A bitter, personal rivalry with Matt Hardy over Lita brought a brand new spotlight onto Edge. After months of dealing with Hardy, Edge defeated him at RAW Homecoming in another Money in the Bank Ladder Match, holding onto his Championship Match and sending Hardy to SmackDown in the process.

Finally, after nine months of planning, Edge found the perfect opportunity to cash in his chance. At New Year's Revolution, after John Cena survived a brutal Elimination Chamber Match to retain the WWE Championship, Edge asked Mr. McMahon to use his Money in the Bank shot. In mere minutes, the fresher Edge overwhelmed the tired and bloody champion, and after two spears, Edge pinned Cena to finally realize his childhood dream.
After winning the WWE Championship at New Year’s Revolution, Edge & Lita held a live sex celebration the next night on RAW, a scene that turned out to be one of the most controversial RAW moments ever. In fact, Edge’s reign as WWE Champion drew RAW’s highest ratings in months, further fueling his ego. He even promised that he would not be a transitional champion; however, just three weeks after he won the title from John Cena, Cena made Edge tap out at the Royal Rumble to disprove that vow.

Not content with just getting to the top, Edge became even more focused towards reclaiming that throne. The night after the Rumble, Edge used his rematch clause and defeated Cena by disqualification, earning himself another opportunity. The next week, he & Lita lost a Mixed Tag Team Match to Cena & Maria, giving Cena the right to choose the special referee for the next rematch, which turned out to be Mick Foley. Cena was victorious in the rematch, and while it seemed that Foley had been an impartial referee, Edge didn’t see it that way. Following the loss, The Rated R Superstar blamed Foley for screwing him and gave the Hardcore Legend a spear. The next week, Edge challenged Foley to a WrestleMania match, giving him one week to respond. When it came time for Foley’s answer, the Hardcore Legend instead offered a challenge of his own for a Hardcore Match at WrestleMania.

In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, the two men attacked each other relentlessly. After Edge nailed Foley with a Conchairto on RAW, The Hardcore Legend responded by giving Edge one of his own on Saturday Night's Main Event. Foley also gave Lita a Mandible Claw, proving that the "old" Foley was back. At WrestleMania, the two men brutalized each other with any weapon they could find. In the end, as Foley stood on the apron, Edge jumped through the ropes and speared the Hardcore Legend, sending both men crashing through a flaming table on the floor. That was enough for Edge to pick up the victory, keeping his WrestleMania record flawless.

With WrestleMania behind him, Edge set his sights on the WWE Championship once again. Leading up to Backlash, the three-way rivalry between Edge, Triple H and John Cena saw all three men on the losing end of a Handicap Match against the other two. They then all teamed together on April 24, but Edge walked out to leave Cena and The Game alone to fight the Spirit Squad. It all came to a head at Backlash, where Cena pinned Triple H to win a Triple Threat Match and retain the WWE Championship.

Following Backlash, Edge & Lita formed a seemingly unlikely alliance with Mick Foley. Edge & Foley were slated to have a WrestleMania rematch on the May 8 edition of RAW, and it was to be a match of Foley's choosing. The Hardcore Legend made it a Triple Threat Match, bringing out former ECW star Tommy Dreamer as the third man. When the match began, however, Foley attacked Dreamer, then handed Edge a barbed-wire baseball bat to attack the "Innovator of Violence." After a Mandible Claw/Spear combo, Edge & Foley pinned Dreamer, and raised each other's hands as the crowd sat in shock. The following week, the hardcore trio struck again, attacking Terry Funk with a barbed-wire bat and treating him to a fate similar to Dreamer's.

On May 22, Edge & Foley declared themselves co-Hardcore Champions, prompting ECW representative Paul Heyman to come to the stage. Heyman challenged the hardcore pair to come to ECW One Night Stand, and after Edge accepted the match, Heyman introduced them to their opponents: Funk & Dreamer. The ECW team then cleaned house, sending Edge & Foley packing from the ringside area.

At WWE vs. ECW Head to Head, Edge got a chance to get his hands on Dreamer & Funk twice. First, he competed in a 20-Man ECW vs. WWE Battle Royal, spending the majority of the match picking his spots from outside the ring, eliminating Dreamer in that fashion. Later, Dreamer & Edge met in an Extreme Rules Match; Dreamer appeared to have the match won, but thanks to an assist from Lita, Edge hit the spear on the Innovator of Violence to get the pinfall.

Edge & Foley continued the streak at ECW One Night Stand, defeating Funk & Dreamer in a brutal, bloody battle. Lita and Beulah even got involved to make it a six-person match. In the end, the Rated-R Superstar viciously speared Beulah to pick up the victory while Funk & Dreamer were out of commission. Oddly, Edge struck a blow for ECW later that night, spearing John Cena through a table in a move that ended up helping Rob Van Dam win the WWE Championship.
