While Coach was battling broadcast partner Jerry “The King” Lawler a Royal Rumble Qualifying Match, five male cheerleaders called the Spirit Squad broke onto the scene. They began running and flipping around the ring, cheering for Coach using blaring air horns. Lawler was distracted by the unannounced visitors, and Coach was able to roll him up and use the ropes for the pin. Thanks to the Spirit Squad, Coach got to participate in the Royal Rumble Match. At the Royal Rumble, the Spirit Squad was again on the scene — this time interrupting Lilian Garcia. The following RAW, the Spirit Squad performed a special Trish Stratus cheer at the request of Mickie James. Since, Kenny, Johnny, Mitch, Mikey and Nicky have enthusiastically done the bidding of Mr. McMahon. Four of the five have now battled Shawn Michaels on two occasions in Handicap Match situations. The second time on RAW, the Spirit Squad defeated HBK in a Texas Tornado Steel Cage Match. Little is known about the green-clad group of athletes other than that they seemed to be accomplished and practiced in their cheers. But they now have the World Tag Team Championship after a shocking upset of Big Show & Kane on RAW. |
