What is your purpose for having a rabbit? Some people raise them as pets or for showing. Others raise rabbits for meat production. Some raise them for 2 or 3 of the above reasons. Whatever your purpose is you need to know, before buying a rabbit. Small rabbits (under 5 lbs) are raised for show and pets. The smaller breeds are a little more hyper then the medium to large breeds but still make wonderful pets. A few breeds are Netherland Dwarf, Polish, Holland Lops, and Mini Rex. Medium rabbits (5 to 8 lbs) are mainly raised for show and pets but can be used as meat. Some of the breeds are Mini Lops, and Dutch. Large breeds are used for show, pets and meat production. They can go from 8 to 20 lbs. Some of the large breeds are Californian, Satins, New Zealand, Flemish Giants and French Lops. We have found the medium and larger breeds to be much more tolerant and calmer than the small breeds. But all rabbits make wonderful pets.
