"Surdulica is the most
beautiful town in the world"-Jevrem Dimitrijevic
An interesting exhibition took place 8-20. June 2002. in Museum
of History of Yugoslavia in Belgrade. The name of the exhibition
was "Triptychs BELGRADE-PARIS-BIARRITZ". The
author of the exhibition was Mr. Jevrem Dimitrijevic
Jevrem spent most of his life with his camera. He has carefully
kept for years everything he photographed and then decided to
present this testimony of Serbo-French friendship to Belgrade.
He presented 150 large format photographs, grouped into
triptychs in an unusual way. He compared three places: Belgrade,
Paris and Biarritz showing urban surroundings with buildings
with same function. On pictures are shown hotels, schools,
libraries, universities, parliament buildings, churches,
squares, parks, streets etc.
Jevrem
is one of us. Born in Surdulica, Jevrem had set out into the
world in his early days. Something had irresistibly pulled him
to Basque town of Biarritz on the south of France. The story
began way back in the time of Obrenovic dynasty. Queen Draga won
the heart of young king Alexander, the last of the Obrenovics.
The castle which was built there and named "Sasino" by
the nickname of Alexander, today is a symbol of this fashionable
summer resort. Queen Natalia Obrenovic, who entered a monastic
order after the tragic destiny of Obrenovic royal couple
dedicated her life to Biarritz. She decorated the castle, built
churches, helped the poor. In the time of the Great War 1914.
she transformed the castle into a shelter for the wounded. Fate
also brought there Krsta Dimitrijevic, Jevrem's father. | Jevrem
