Vik
Vik is the southernmost point in Iceland.  As an Anit-Submarine Warfare type guy, I get to examine all the underwater topographical maps of Iceland.  A large underwater canyon points straight at the beach at Vik.  On this particular day, the buoys were showing about 1 meter or less, yet Vik had surf in the waist to chest high range.  I would guess that there is alot of surf here.
This particular shot was taken from about 500 feet up the side of a mountain.  My wife dearly wanted a picture of a puffin, so I climbed a "trail" up the side of this cliff to see if I could find some.  It wasn't my finest hour.  I saw some distant puffins, but none close enough to photograph.  I had the piece of mind to snap this quick pic of the surf, though, so that if I fell on the way down, my wife would have something to show my surfing friends for my efforts!
To get here: follow Route 1 out of Reykjavik towards Vik.  It's about 3 hours of difficult driving.  There are many cool sights on the way; waterfalls, glaciers, cliffs, etc.  North winds would be offshore.  There's a campground here as well.
The best barrels I've seen at Sandvik.  This pic just wouldn't fit anywhere else.
The elusive puffin.
