A Note About the Site | ||||||||
Sixty Four North was created in early 2002 when I was transferred to Keflavik, Iceland. I left Iceland in late 2004. In 2006 the Navy base in Keflavik was closed after some 50 years of service. Therefore, it is unlikely that I will return to this unique country. It is unlikely that I will update this site many more times. I have put links to the most popular breaks so that visiting surfers will have an idea of where to look for surf. This list is by no means the only breaks in Iceland, though. I have given directions and general conditions for many of the breaks, but near all of the breaks pictured are reefs that may be firing under certain conditions. I have received numerous emails and pictures that have shown many additional ridable breaks in the vicinity of the ones listed on the site. I hope that if you are planning a visit here, this site will provide a few ideas of where to begin your search. While you are looking, if you see a reef going off, go surf it! The great thing about Iceland is that there is just an unbelievable amount of potential...Iceland frequently gets large surf, and the exposure of the Reykjanes means it is always offshore somewhere. If you need additional information regarding the surf here, please see the link on the homepage entitled, "Frequently Asked Questions". Most of the typical questions I get are answered there. If you need other information, you can drop me an email at the link on the homepage and I will do my best to get back to you.. I wish you the best of luck in your surfing, and hope you enjoy your time in the Land of Fire and Ice. Stay wet, Mike |
