An interesting fact about JD revolves around his Native American heritage. He was born and raised as a Catholic. Becoming disgruntled with the lifestyle of Catholics, he has converted himself to the religion of Shamanism, which revolves around Native American spiritual beliefs. He is a practioner of divination of Shamanism. He believes the hardest obstacle in his life was to accept and encompass this religion while living in a household of very strict and stingent Catholic parents.

JD has been an avid Boy Scout ever since he became a Tiger Scout when he was six. He has attained the rank of Life Scout and is currently working on his Eagle Scout Project, which is designing a Native American Traditions Garden at a local nature preserve. Since his joining of the Boy Scouts, he has become very active in the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, where he has become a member of the executive committee and gladly takes the politics of his local Boy Scout Council in by storm. He is also the Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 34, and is a member of the council's Venturing Crew, Crew 720.

JD's greatest accomplishment is backpacking over 50-miles on the Appalachian Trail with three of his closest friends from Scout Camp as well as running in races around his area to support charities. JD describes himself as determined, persevering, and witty. His perfect day would include a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking, cycling, canoeing, and climbing.
