Yami entered his room
that night, fairly tired. He took off his
cape and began to undress.
Down at the riverbank,
Ariah sensed he was back. With a sly
grin, she transported herself to his room.
Invisible, she watched him begin to undress.
Then, he stopped and
looked around. He remembered the events
of earlier and reconsidered.
Ariah was slightly
impressed as she became visible. “You
catch on quicker than most,” she commented and he spun around.
“You again,” he
snarled. “I told you I didn’t want you
here!”
“Yes, you did. And so did your father and the Pharaoh
before him and the one before him...” she said, tilting her head to the side
and counting them off on her fingers.
“I command you to leave
me alone!” he cried.
“You can command all you
want, Pharaoh, but you can’t carry anything out.” She said, sitting on the edge of his bed.
Furious, Yami stared at
her. “How can you sit while everything
else passes right through you?”
“Good question,” she
replied, then rose into the air, making Yami take a few steps back. “See, I’m not /really/ sitting on your bed. I’m just sitting so close to it, it looks
like I am.”
“What do you want from
me? Why are you here?” the Pharaoh
yelled.
“I only want to have
some fun. And you’re providing the most
fun I’ve had in a good while,” Ariah said with a smile.
“How do I get rid of
you?”
She snorted. “You don’t.”
“There must be a
way! I demand you tell me!” Yami
exclaimed.
Considering it for a
moment, she turned her head slyly to him and grinned. “There is one way, but you definitely wouldn’t like it.”
“What is it? Tell me!
Whether or not I like it, I’ll do anything to get rid of you at this
point!”
“Gee, you haven’t even
known me for a day and you already can’t stand me,” she said in mock hurt. “If you really want me to tell you, you have
to be nicer than that.”
“I don’t /have/ to do
anything, spirit!” Yami growled.
“Quit calling me spirit,
I have a name. Or have you
forgotten? That old age getting to
you?” she asked with a laugh.
“Ariah,” he answered,
folding his arms and glaring at her.
“That’s right! Hmmm, I didn’t think you’d remember.”
“You are changing the
subject,” he said.
“Hmmm, you’re right, I
am, aren’t I?” she said thoughtfully.
“Tell me what I must
do!”
Ariah held in a laugh
and looked him up and down.
“Weeelll...” she started.
Aggravated, Yami turned
away. “Just leave me be.”
“Aw, come on. You’re too much fun to just leave alone,”
she said, lying on her stomach on his bed and propping her chin up with her
hands.
“I don’t care! I want you to go!” he cried, turning back to
her. “And get off my bed!”
She laughed. “Okay.
Let’s say I do go. How will you
know if I really am gone, or if I’m still here, just invisible?”
Yami glared at her. - There must be someway to get rid of her! -
Ariah laughed
again. “See? So what’s the point of me leaving visibly if you don’t even know
if I really left? Wouldn’t you rather
see me here instead of having someone invisible watch you?”
She got off the bed and
started to walk towards him, making him back up.
“What, are you afraid of
me?” she asked.
He immediately stopped
and stood his ground as she advanced.
“I’m not afraid of anything,” he replied as she stopped a few inches
away from him. He could feel a cold
chill coming from her and he held back a shiver.
“Hmmm. Impressive.
This is the closest a Pharaoh’s ever let me get on the first day. Except for maybe when they’re asleep,” she
said, heading back toward the bed.
Yami’s eyes
widened. “You stay out of my bed!” he
cried.
She turned to him. “Oops, did I say that out loud?” she asked with a sly grin. “How are you going to keep me out?”
“I’m tired of your
games! Why don’t you just leave me
alone?” he cried, furious.
She laughed. “Because you’re fun to aggravate. You’re cute when you’re mad.”
Fire blazed in his eyes,
but there was nothing he could do to her.
She grinned and said,
“But don’t worry, if I come for you when you’re asleep, you’ll know. You’ll wake up cold.”
“You’re sick,” Yami
said, shuddering.
“Yeah, well,” she said
with a shrug.
He thought back and
tried to remember if he had woken up cold any night in the past few months, but
Ariah stopped him.
“Don’t worry. I always try to meet the Pharaoh first,” she
said.
“That’s a comfort,” he
snarled, only half sarcastically.
Then she grinned. “Most of the time.”
“Ariah!” he cried,
threatening a fist at her.
She laughed and held up
both hands in surrender. “I’m
kidding! No need to get hostile! Oh, and I’m kidding about the whole bed
thing too. I’m a ghost. That’d be impossible.”
Yami breathed in relief
and lowered his hand. “Leave me
alone. I’m tired and I have things to
do tomorrow.”
She sighed. “Yeah, okay. But this won’t be the last you see of me!” she said as she
vanished.
Yami slowly walked to
the spot she had once stood and waved his hand through the air. His hand didn’t feel cold, but he was still
suspicious. So he went to bed without
changing.
Ariah held in a laugh as
he got into bed and transported herself to the Nile. As Yami drifted off to sleep, he heard her voice singing the soft
melody.

a/n: Ariah can be a real
snake, huh? She loves to mess with
minds. Yami can’t stand the fact that she
is bothering him so much, which is understandable, huh? I mean, what would be your reaction if a
ghost said they slept with you and you didn‘t know it? lol
Anyways, review and I’ll post the next chapter, kay?
