      “Hey, time to get up.”

Yami opened his eyes slightly, then closed them again.  “Leave me alone,” he snarled, rolling over.

“Yeah, right,” Ariah said.  “Okay, fine.”  She passed her hand through his shoulder and he sat bolt upright.  “Thought that might do it,” she said with a grin.

“What do you want?  Why won’t you leave me alone?” he cried.

“Why do you keep asking me that?” Ariah asked.  “I’ve already given you your answer.”

“Well, it wasn’t good enough!” he exclaimed, threatening a fist at her.

“I’m sorry it wasn’t to your satisfaction, but not everything can be perfect!” Ariah said, raising her voice slightly.

“Get out of my sight,” Yami growled, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.

“All right, fine,” Ariah replied, vanishing.

The Pharaoh looked up, surprised.  - That was far too easy, - he thought suspiciously.

“Now you can’t see me.  Are you happy?” came her voice from somewhere in front of him.

He jumped, scanning his eyes over where she once stood.  “Show yourself immediately!”

She reappeared, her arms folded.  “Would you make up your mind?  Are you always this indecisive?”

Yami’s eyes blazed as he grabbed for her shirt, but his hand went right through her.  This only infuriated him more and he tried to grab her shoulders but to no avail.  He yelled in fury as he thrust his arm right through her.  Breathing heavily and shivering slightly, he dropped back onto the bed.

“Feeling better?” she asked, a wild grin on her face.

“No,” he replied, venom in his voice.

“You can do it again if you like,” she said.  “It doesn’t bother me in the slightest.”

Yami was at a loss for words and she laughed.  “What have I done to warrant this?” he asked, struggling to keep his voice even.

      She shrugged.  “You’re a male.”

“What does /that/ have to do with anything?” he snarled.

“Don’t you listen when I talk?” she asked.

“I try not to,” he replied, glowering at her.

She laughed slightly.  “Hmmm...” she said simply.

“What is that supposed to mean?” he asked.

      “Nothing,” she replied.

He scowled.  “I have to get ready,” he said.

      “Okay, so get ready.”

      “Without you here,” he snarled.

Ariah rolled her eyes and sighed.  “Fine, I’ll turn around, okay?”  She turned her back to him and put a hand over her eyes.

Yami stood, keeping his eyes on her.  He changed quickly, glaring at her all the while.  “All right,” he said.

      She turned around and grinned.

“What?” he asked.  She was about to speak when he interrupted.  “I don’t want to know.  I’m going now.”  With that, he grabbed his cape and left.

Ariah’s grin only got bigger.  “Weeelll, he didn’t say I couldn’t come too...” she said to herself.  She laughed as she disappeared.

“Have you found him?” Yami asked Priest Seto.

“Not yet, but we are looking,” he replied.

“It’s one man!  How hard can he be to find?” the Pharaoh exclaimed.

      “Who are you looking for?”

A female voice was whispering in Yami’s ear and he was feeling a cold chill.

“Oh, no,” he muttered, putting his forehead in his hand.

“What is it, Pharaoh?” Priest Seto asked.

“Nothing,” he replied, looking at Seto.  He heard Ariah laugh.

      “Liar,” she whispered.

“Get away from me,” he hissed at her.

      “I’m sorry?” Seto asked, confused.

      “Not you,” Yami replied.

“Pharaoh, we’re the only ones in the room,” the High Priest said, raising an eyebrow.

Yami heard the ghost laugh again.  “Would you leave me alone?” he hissed.

“But this is so much fun!” Ariah protested in his ear.

“Keep away from me!” he said, trying to wave her away.  The result was a very cold hand and an odd look from Seto.

“Are you feeling all right?” he asked.

“Yes, I’m fine.  Would you just go?” he hissed at Ariah who was still cackling in his ear.

“Pharaoh, maybe you should go lie down.  I will take care of any other business,” Seto said.

      “I’m fine,” Yami replied.

“Of course you are, sweetie.  You’re just talking to yourself and you look like you’re insane!” Ariah laughed.

“You mean like you?” he snapped.

      “Well, sort of,” Ariah said.

“Ria!” Seto called, keeping his eyes on Yami.  A servant girl entered the room and bowed quickly.  “Escort the Pharaoh to his room.”

      “That’s not necessary,” Yami said.

      “Sure it is,” Ariah said.

“Would you just go away?” he snarled at her.

      “Right away,” Ria said.

      “I’m fine, Seto,” Yami said.

“Pharaoh, I think you need rest.  Ria will escort you to your room,” Seto replied.

Yami began to protest once more, but finally resigned to following Ria.  Furious, he let her lead the way to his room.  He closed the door without a word to Ria, then rounded on Ariah.

      “Show yourself immediately!” he cried.

“All right, all right,” she replied, appearing in front of him.  “No need to shout.”

“There is a need to shout!” he exclaimed.  “Thanks to you, my high priest thinks I’ve gone mad!”

“Now, that’s not my fault.  You’re the one that was talking to me.  You shouldn’t have done that,” Ariah said, holding back a laugh.

“Why are you doing this to me?” he cried.

      “Because you’re fun to annoy.”

“It’s not fun for me!  For the love of Ra, just leave me alone!”

“What, don’t you like me?” Ariah asked, putting on a pout.

“No!” he cried.  “I don’t like you!  I’ve never liked anyone less than you!”

“Oh.  Well that clears that up then.”

“What must I do to get rid of you?” Yami asked.

“You don’t get rid of me.  I’m here to haunt you for the rest of your existence.”

“Ariah, you must leave me alone!  I have a duty to do and you’re not helping!” he said.

“Did you ever think that maybe I can help?” she asked, folding her arms.

“No.  How could you possibly help?” he asked, folding his own arms.

“Who’s that man you’re looking for?” she asked.

“That’s none of your business,” he replied.

“Who is it?  Maybe I can help,” she said.

“You can help by leaving me alone.”

      “No,” she said stubbornly.

“No,” he repeated quietly, glaring at her.

“That’s right.  You’re not used to hearing that word, are you, Pharaoh?”

He gritted his teeth to stop himself from trying to hit her.  He knew it wouldn’t do any good and it would only amuse her, something he didn’t want to do at all.

“Tell me who it is you’re after,” she said.  “And why.”

“No,” he said, throwing the word right back at her.

“I can help you find him,” she said.

      “No.”

“Your search parties aren’t doing any good, so why not give me a try?”

“No,” he snarled.  “End of discussion.”

“Fine.  I won’t help.  But you’ll see you should have taken me up on my offer,” she said, and for the first time she looked slightly angry.

“Will you just leave me alone?” he cried.

      “Fine!” she exclaimed, vanishing.

Yami sank down onto his bed, fuming.  - Why me? - he thought.
