Quebec, Canada

The thumbnails on this page are of Quebec City, Canada taken in 1998 and 1999. I do not have any pictures of Quebec when we visited there in 1959. If anyone has any from that time I will be glad to post them. Vieux (Old) Quebec consists of two sections, upper and lower, and both sections are encircled by a wall. Both upper and lower Quebec has changed very little since 1959. Outside the walls the city is changing like any large city - new hotels, shopping centers, and roadway systems. Old Quebec has changed very little compared to the rest of the city. The pier where we docked (Wolf's Cove) is now a recreational pier and they have added a couple of new buildings and a new road system through the area. Otherwise, it is basically the same as most of the buildings are historic in nature, built in the 1600's to 1700's, and cannot be ripped down and built upon. I also added a few pictures from Quebec City's Winter Carnival. Enjoy...

Both of these pictures are taken from the top of the Citadelle. The first picture shows the Chateau Frontenac overlooking the St. Lawrence River and Old Quebec. The second picture shows Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. Just beyond where the boat is docked near the center of the picture is the new pier. If I remember correctly this was the location of Wolfs Cove.

The next two pictures are taken from the pier. The first picture is looking towards Old Quebec from a section of the new pier. Note the parking lot which was not there when we visited. The next picture is from the older section of the pier looking towards the Citadelle. The Citadelle is the fort that was built to protect Quebec from the English and Americans when they invaded 'New France'.

The next picture in line was taken from the new pier looking east. I believe this is the area that we docked at when we visited Quebec. The next picture was taken from a small park called Place Royal looking west towards the Citadelle and the Chateau Frontenac.
