Unless absent because of illness or other legally recognized
reasons, students should be in regular attendance at school. Parents
or guardians are encouraged to call the attendance office prior to
10:00 am on the day of the student absence. The 24 hour attendance
phone number is 594-7640. If a phone call is not possible, the
student MUST bring a note from his/her parent or guardian reporting
the reason for this absence which should be turned in to the
advisement teacher. Any absence, unless cleared by a phone call or
note will be considered truant.
Students tardy to school or to class may be assigned a one hour
after school detention or a Saturday workday. failure to attend
detention and /or repeated tardiness will be dealt with as severe
offenses. In severe cases of chronic tardiness and absences, students
will be referred to the School Attendance Review Board.

In March 1996, The City of Walnut adopted a new Truancy Ordinance.
It reads as follows: It is unlawful for any minor under the age of
eighteen years to loiter, idle, wander, stroll or play in or upon the
public streets, highways, roads. alleys, parks, playgrounds, or other
public grounds, public places and public buildings, places of
amusement and eating places, vacant lots of any unsupervised place
between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. of the same day on which
school is in session.
