Erwin Casareno led a strong team of chess players from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to a surprise second place finish behind the defending champion AEIA. The team of composed of Erwn Casareno (Philippines) bd 1, Smoljan Branko (Croatia) bd 2, Alexander Niulin (Russian Federation) bd 3, Eduard Osadchiy (Ukraine) bd 4, Sudhir Kulkarni (India) bd 5, and an import from ITU. Erwin Casareno and Smoljan Branko were also the best players in boards 1 and 2, respectively, and were awarded gold medals for their efforts. The team trophy (see photo below) is currently in the possession of Alexander Nikulin.
