Travis seemed to shine in the limlight of professional motocross. During his rookie year of Supercross, Travis learned a tremendous amount, due to his lack of experience. Most importantly he learned to be smoother, which allowed him to win three times during his battle for the championship with Stephane Roncada; who went onand won the championship. Their rivalry did not end in Supercross; it only heated up during the national outdoors season.Pastrana appeared to be faster, but Roncada was more consistent. In what can only be described as miraculous, Pastrana came back from being 65-points behind to win the title at the final round, by a mere two points. Travis was the obvious choice for the AMA Rookie of the Year, and was selected to be a member of the USA Motocross Des Nations Team, thus becomig the youngest member ever selected. At the Des Nations Travis played an intrumental role in bringing back the title to the USA. During 2000, he kept his undefeated streak of freestyle motocross in tact by winning the gold medal at the Summer X-Games. It was an incredible year for any rider, and for a sixteen year old it was unbelievable. |
