In 1999, a 15-year-old kid rode up to the inagural Freestyle moto-x event at the Summer X-Games. Feeling like the underdog, Pastrana was ready for the competition. He was turning heads all across the amateur ranks, but he was now stepping into a more competitive and challenging area, with men taht were twice his age.. Nobodyever thought he would be so good, he was catapulted into instant fame and worldwide recognition. 
He made it known that he was here to stay, when he launched into the San Fransisco

Continuing his success he entered the 1st ever Gravity Games, with something to prove. He wanted to prove to everyone and anyone that he is the best. Pastrana and riding partner Kenny Bartram walked away with gold medals in the doubles contest. Pastrana owned the freestyle contest, because when it comes to freestyle, the kid just doesn't lose. He finished the year with 2 gold medals in the freestyle Moto-X contest and 1 gold medal in the doubles contest.
