The Severn Vale Riding Club is founded, taking its membership from North Bristol and the surrounding areas. The Club competed officially for the first time. Mike and Diane Davies present the Davies Points Tropy to the Club. The Club is overjoyed when the Show Jumping Team not only qualifies, but also wins at the Championships David Bliss presents the EDB Trophy to the Club. The Banks Rosebowl is presented to the Club by Tony and Jean Banks Equitation Jumping and Prix Caprilli Teams both qualify for the Championships, the Prix Caprilli Team being placed fourth, with an individual winning one of the sections. The Clanger Trophy is presented to the Club by Gabrielle Cash, who promptly wins it! Prix Caprilli Team qualifies for the Championships. A Show Jumping and Equitation Jumping Team were both second in the Area Trials and the Horse Trials Team were placed third. Hilary McEwen-Smith, a founder member of the Club, is invited to become Club President. Hilary McEwen-Smith is awarded Honorary Life Membership in recognition of the dedication she has shown the Club during her twenty-one years membership. Honorary Life Membership is awarded to Brian Etherington for his many years devoted to the cause of Club Accounts and Cross Country course building. The Club is divided into Houses and friendly rivalry and competition is encouraged. Christmas comes early! Inter-house fun and games at the Aussie Xmas Party (in August) The Inter-house Quadrille is launched on an unsuspecting membership. The first winners, presenting "The Far Sid of the Rainbow", were Dorothy - Sarah Tucker, Scare-crow - Gill Storrs, Tin Man - Shelagh Fishlock, Cowardly Lion - Kath Dayer. Debbie Harding and Mum Ann donate their caravan to the Club. Much appreciated by those helping at the very wet Members' Show. The Club is launched onto the Internet. The President, Hilary McEwen-Smith, is guest of honour at the Club's Thirtieth Birthday Party and Disco. Members old and new get together and look forward to the next thirty years. SVRC, in association with B & D and Saxon, run the Millenium Show for Riding Clubs, which will hopefully be an annual event. Honorary Life Membership is awarded to Liz and Gill Storrs, Officers of the Club for nine and eighteen years respectively. |
