Area 12 News - Sever Vale headed back to the Championships! Yes, folks, we have a team headed to the BRC Championships again this year, with Di Sealey and Becky Jenkins making their second appearance, this year accompanied by Wendy Barke and Anne Pearse. They were beaten into second place at the Area Qualifier on time, with the winning team and them on team totals of four faults. Our other team, one member short because of last minute problems, Ian and Georgina Haddrell and Chas Rovers also acquitted themselves well, including a double clear from Georgina. Considering their lorry had broken down and horses rescued by Anne Pearse, they really excelled themselves. It was a long day, made longer by a number of clubs having problems with their vaccination certificates, the BRC have really tightened up on scrutiny, so if you're planning to enter teams, please read the rules in Hoofprint. Luckily, the weather was on our side and the sun shone. Jo and Shelagh lent a hand with the course building for round two and both thought it looked a bit unchallenging, then we watched it being jumped and realised it was actually pretty fiendish, still, good preparation for the Nationals. Thanks and congratulations to both teams and good luck for 18 April. Anyone wishing to come and support, please contact Jo or Shelagh. Summer Competitions WThese are the dates for the rest of the year in Area 12. If you want to be part of any of the teams, you must fill in the form in Hoofprint. If this form is not received, you will not be contacted. Better send in the form even if you are not sure than miss out on your chance. Weather conditions were appalling, not helped by two little ponies who kept popping their heads through the fence to say hello! Nevertheless, the stalwart members of SVRC rode on undaunted. We were hoping for better weather at Leyland Court, but hit a double disaster, not only horrible weather, but Alex fell ill. Many thanks to Rosemary Burton, who put the first group through their paces and to Sue Jones, who arrived as the weather got even worse and had what can only be described as the 'naughty ponies' group, who, all except Judith Dawson's Toosh, decided to behave in a manner appropriate to the wind and rain. Well done everyone! Katie Turner Jumping Rally, 27 January Well, what can I say? Downpours of torrential rain and strong winds were not the ideal conditions to ride in at a rally, but I made it and so did many others. With Alex ill, we were stuck for an instructor, but Sue Jones saved the day. With only myself and another member in the jumping session, we managed to jump a course whilst getting blown over and soaking wet! I enjoyed the lesson and so did my horse. Thank you to all that helped that day. Being a new member, I would like to thank SVRC for making me welcome. I hope the year ahead is full of enjoyment and better weather -could it get any worse?! Katie Turner Flatwork Rally, RDA Henbury, 10 February Since only recently becoming the proud owner of my first trailer, I am determined to get out and about to as many events as possible. So, feeling very brave (and with a few butterflies in my tummy) I managed to hook up myself and then failed miserably to manoeuvre out of the yard car park. Fortunately my husband came to my rescue (yet again!) and got me on my way. (If anyone gives lessons in reversing trailers I'd be very grateful!!!!!!) Having managed to find the RDA without any hiccups, I was so relieved to find the session was to be held indoors - what a treat! My horse, Halle, entered the school quite sensibly and then realised this was going to be rather fun and decided to up the pace somewhat. However, after several laps of the school in trot and some much needed help from our instructor, Nick, she settled down and actually started to work quite well, bending much better than before. We're usually the experts at 'motorbiking' round corners. Then the canter work - oh hell, I thought, this is going to hurt. I don't think I've ever done as much trot and canter work before and my legs were letting me know. Even Halle was quite pooped by the end of the hour! I'd like to say thank you to all concerned for making this event so enjoyable and I'm going to put into practice what I've learned - or at least try! Here's to the next event, by which time, I hope my legs will have recovered. Niki Hudson and Halle Cog Mill Series 2004 Old hands with the club will be familiar with this competition, a series of dressage and jumping with trophies for absolute beginners, novice and open competititors. This year, we are returning to Leyland Court, using the sand surfaces, but have made some changes in response to ever-increasing entries and to balance the needs of dressage riders and jumpers. There will be four dates, two for Dressage and two for Jumping, so the trophies will be awarded over two events for single disciplines and all four for the combined trophies. If demand is sufficient, there will be one or two additional jumping classes alongside the series competitions at Cog Mill II and IV and a Novice Test at Cog Mill I.
