Divine Word Seminary, Pune is the Alma Mater and
pride of the
Indian SVDs. In 1893, the Papal Seminary for the whole of India
was established in Kandy, Srilanka. On June 18, 1956 Brothers Pley
and Methodius took up the construction work of the Divine Word
Seminary, under the patronage of St. John de Britto.
The foundation stone was laid by Fr. Zeitler.
Since 1959, nearly 550 seminarians have been ordained
priests and brothers have pronounced their vows.
Among these one is an Archbishop and five are bishops,
all serving in India. Approximately, 120 priests are working in
32 foreign countries. At present Brothers who are
preparing to be missionaries carryout various ministries.
