A Brief History
SVD House Pilathara is situated in the
northern part of Kerala in the district of Kannur in Kerala Stae.The house
was built and was inaugurated and blessed on 30th July 1995. It
has an area of around eight acres of land which is rather fertile and
cultivable. The land yields Coconuts, Cashew and Pepper. The land lies
just along the National High Way No. 17 and the SVD House is situated just
on this High Way. Initially the House functioned as a Minor Seminary
where the students were admitted for an orientation course which lasted
for a year. Later this course was shifted to our Minor Seminary in
Changanacherry
The Objectives of the SVD House Today
Today the SVD House function as a Biblical
Pastoral Center in the sense that the staff who are appointed to this
house are involved in the Biblical and Pastoral Ministry mainly in the
dioceses of Kannur and Thalaserry. We also offer our services outside
these two dioceses. Right now we do not conduct any residential progaramme
in the house due to lack of living and accommodation facilities. However
we plan to conduct progarammes in the house in the near future so that we
could call them programmes of the Divine Word Missionaries ! Thus the
house is in the process of being developed as a center for Biblical
formation for the laity as well as for the religious. We conduct short
courses on Bible, conduct retreats, discussions and prayers based on the
Word of God.
The Confreres of the SVD House and their Apostolate
Today
Fr. Sebastian Pottanani
and Fr. Mathew Kavukatt are the two confreres who are involved in the
ministry today. Fr. Mathew Kavukatt is having a full time Biblical
Ministry. He offers Biblical classes in the diocese and parish level on
invitation. He also visits Institutions both SVDs and non Svds for
short courses on Bible. Fr. Pottanani is involved in various pastoral ministries like preaching
retreats, recollections, hearing confessions and celebrating Masses in
various parishes.
