Awards of Arms

after the best of sources in the Archives of Carolina Rediviva

Finns på svenska också

As the local heraldic person I have been requested to translate and re-work some Award of Arms-letters that Nordmark scroll-mommy Gro Torstensdotter have found in the collection of Carolina Rediviva (Uppsala University Library). Encouraged by the Drachenwald Signet Clerk, Lady Signe Sigurdsdotter, I am now sharing my newfound knowledge with the Known World.

Below are links to the letters I have translated so far. They contain a more or less direct translation of the Middle Swedish text, and a suggested re-wording for use in the SCA.

a Medieval Swedish Knight's Oath

When Christopher of Bavaria was crowned King of Sweden a number of knights were created, and the oath they swore on the occasion was recently published in the magazine Populär historia. Of course I could not let such an opportunity pass, so here is my translation and reworking of it.
