Svend Ludwig Cook's Family Tree ~ Denmark, Norway, England, and America
Lovise was born in Oksnaes, Norway. She came to America with a missionary husband named Johnson in 1890. The missionary went into New York City on business and  never made it back to the ship. Louise and the 2 children continued on to Salt Lake City by train.  The children were placed on a farm in Provo, Utah with Daniel and Sophie Cook where they remained as indentured servants until they were 21 to pay for their passage to America. The children were given the last name of Cook. Louise worked in a laundry in Salt Lake City to pay for her passage to America. She later married Mr.Cowsill (He was Norwegian).  He worked for the railroad and was killed on the job. They had 2 sons. William and Fredrick. Louise moved to Los Angeles, Calif.  It is assumed that she probably died there .

Edna is the daughter of Louise Winter. Edna was born in Bergen, Norway in 1885  and named Bergliot but in America they called her Edna. She was raised by the Cook family and given the last name of Cook.
Edna married MARTIN JENSEN and they had 3 children: Donald, Grace, and Keneth. The family moved from Salt Lake City Utah to Los Angeles, California.

Carl Ludwig was the son of Louise Winter. He was born in Bergen, Norway. He knew a Mr. and Mrs. Johannasson as Mama and Papa in Bergen. He went fishing everyday with his Papa. One day Louise, a stranger to him, came and said she was his mother and had come to take him to America. After an argument with the Johansons, she left only to return with a sheriff and take the boy away with her to America- She had a little blond girl with her who she said was his sister. At hte ship she introduced Missionery Johnson to the children as their father. In America they were raised by the Cook family in Provo, Utah and given the last name of Cook. He married Laura Larsen and had 2 sons. Svend Ludwig Cook and the younger one was Lester who was killed by a steam roller at about 3-4 years old. The family moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Los Angeles, California. Carl and Laura were devorced and both re-married. Laura had 2 other children.

Lars Christian Christiansen

grandfather of
Svend Ludwig Cook
Lars Christian Christiansen married Marrianne Svendsdatter and had 3 children. Then his wife died. Svend was then raised by his aunt. Lars later re-married. I think he had more children. (He was a big man, over 6 ft. tall, and a steel worker.)

His son Svend Christian Larsen went to sea for 5 years. When his ship came to New York he knew he wanted to stay there and left the ship. He lived in Perth Amboy,New Jersy and he helped build the Brooklin Bridge and later married the contractor's daughter: Elizabeth Hornsby, a twin who was born at sea coming to America. They  moved to Salt Lke city and raised a large family. He was a building contactor and at one time the sheriff of a mining town. He visited his daughter and grand-children in L.A at age 94 and walked up the city hall stairs (about 20 stories high). He was then a bit hard of hearing and read the newpaper with two magnifying glasses.

pictures and to read what Svend Christian wrote about his life and coming to America.
John Hornsby and his wife Mary Ann (Horsey) Hornsby came to America from Bridgewater, England. Twin girls were born at sea. One was named Elizabeth Hornsby.  (the births were registered in Williamsburg,New York.)They made their home in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and raised a large family. He became a contractor on the Brooklyn Bridge. He had a brother named Samuel who may have emigrated with them. It is my understanding that one of Samuel's sons became a famous baseball player.
