Although other after-market harness manufacturers have these, they leave off the Orange/White dimmer wire. Subaru factory radios require this wire for the illumination to work. I started making
these mainly for Subaru owners who are keeping their factory radio (adding a subwoofer or amp) and wanted to buy a reverse and forward harness at the same time and be certain they get harnesses with all 14 wires. Note: The dimmer wire is not needed by most after-market radios.
The wires have the same EIA-standard color-coding used by after-market radios and other harnesses, with text labels (for example, "Left Front
Speaker +") and pre-stripped ends ready for you to crimp or solder to
the harness that comes with your new radio. The 14 wires are:
- Four speakers (8 wires)
- Ground
- +12 Volt Accessory (switched)
- +12 Volt Battery/Memory (always-on)
- Power antenna control (remote turn-on for car's motorized antenna
or antenna booster amplifier)
- Illumination ("Illumination +")
- Dimmer ("Illumination -")
