PEACE GO-FOR-IT!!! Writen By E-J What we did for the peace go-for-it. We made friendship bracelets, to make our version you need; wool and card. You have to cut out an octagon from card, you will need an octagon for everyone in the patrol. Then you cut slits in each corner of the octagon and put a hole in the middle. Then you choose seven pieces of wool and tie a knot at the end to hold them all together and put it through the hole in the centre. You put each strand of wool into one of the slots which are around the edge. You should have one spare. You put the empty slot to your right so it looks like this; 1_____________________2 / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ 3/_______ _______\4 | | | | | | | | | | 5|_______ ________|6 \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \/ ___________________ \/ 7 8 There should be wool in all slots except 4, then take the third piece of wool, which, with this diagram, would be 3 and move t into the empty slot, (number 4). Then move the empty slot to the same position as the beginning (where number four is) and repeat. it would go like this, 8 into 3, 2 into 8, 5 into 2, 6 into 5,1 into 6, 7 into 1, 4 into 7, 3 into 4, 8 into 3. Over and over again (you might like to number it). When you get to the end of the wool you tie a knot in the wool and thats it! Next we played stop/freeze from the Go-for-it poster. Stop/freeze is a game which you practise problem solving. It is when 2 people act out a situation and try to settle an arguement. If the patrol thinks someones going over the top of they have an idea to solve the problem they shout STOP/FREEZE and the 2 people stop. You then walk up to someone an tap them on the shoulder to take over from them. You then just continue the conversation. You do about 5 sinarios and then you have completed stop freeze. Another of our activities we're the mobiles, You will need two pieces of wood (per person), string or wool, card and colour pencils. Get the 2 pieces of wood and cut a piece out of one so that it looks like this - ___________ ___________ | |____| | |___________________________| Leave the other piece of wood how it is and stick them both together, putting the normal piece inside the piece with a bit cut out. You then cut shapes out of card and draw peace symbols on them, ie, doves, flowers, peace symbol, Yin and Yang etc. Stick some wool onto the card and tie it around then piece of wood. Do this for all 4 ends and you have the peace mobile. Lasr we did peace stones, you need some pebbles, enough for everyone in the patrol, paints,. clear nail varnish or varnish and wire, (the best type of wire is the plastic coated stuff as it is safe, better to wear and colourful) You paint the stone wirth a peace symbol or something to do with friendship and coat it with the varnish or nail varnish, then using your wire tie it round the stone (for plastic wire strip the end of it) Tie the wire around your neck and thats what we did for peace! |
