Christ is Like the Sun

by Gail Oneyear

Now brothers and sisters in Christ don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying our Christ is the sun and we are sun worshipers. And don’t get into the technicalities about the sun being harmful in some respects etc. I'm just talking about the sun in relationship to warmth and light.

As Christ’s followers we can only reflect his glory as our moon reflects the light of the sun. When the moon is not full or when there is cloud cover I have heard the expression "as black as a dark hole in Calcutta." Now I know nothing of Calcutta dark or not but the phrase is suppose to represent a dark unpleasant place. Or how about "as dark as night."? Or, so dark you can’t see your hand in front of your face. Now that’s dark.

But, my friends, when the moon is full, bright and close to the earth the sayings we hear are " as bright as day", "Did you see how bright the moon was last night? It was as bright as day." We, His servants, can only reflect His glory and light but even with that dim reflection we can help others find their way out of darkness into their own light.

So, my fellow Christians, when you feel down and not effective just remembers we all feel like this at times. Also remember just as the moon waxes and wanes or when clouds cover its view this last but a short time. The thinnest crescent is better than no light at all and the moon always comes around full again. So just keep plugging along reflecting the light of Christ as best you can. Christ told us we didn’t have to obtain perfection just embark on the road to it. Don’t let your imperfections get in the way of you reflecting God’s special light.

We are God’s hands on this earth. In caring for one another and the place where we live we reflect the light of our Jesus, the Son of God, who went before us to show us the way. Extend your hand, reflect His light and move on to glory.
