"I don't know what you want me to do," Terry
complained to Sedra. "The board has voted me to move out
west and take over the company that has just been acquired. I
didn't choose it, Sedra. But, to continue with this job, I have
to go. The question is, will you come with me?"
Sedra stood staring at the skyscraper in the distance from their New York apartment view. She was at her wits end with all the troubles that they have had lately. The beginning of their relationship was filled with ecstasy and she had always thought she would follow Terry to the ends of the earth. Now, there was something else to consider. Not something but someone. Sedra turned to Terry with tears in her eyes. "Terry, it's not that I don't want to be with you. It's just that all of our plans have changed. I just found out that we are going to have a baby. This changes 'everything'." Sedra broke down crying and started to fall. Terry raced from across the room and grabbed her and helped her to the easy chair. Astonished, Terry looked at Sedra and then took her in his arms lovingly. "Oh, Sedra." he consoled her. Terry just held her. Then after the shock wore off, he started laughing. Sedra pushed away. "What are you laughing about? There is nothing funny about our situation," she scolded then pushed him onto the floor. Terry reached for the end table to stop the fall but brought the lamp and little stand up calendar with a snow covered mountain down with him. Terry saw the horror on Sedra's face as she realized what she had done. She thought she'd hurt Terry and exclaimed "I'm sorry! I am so sorry, Terry. Are you hurt?" She came to the floor to touch him. Recognizing the panic and sympathy, Terry started milking it for what he could get. "Oh! My back. My back is killing me. Oh...oh...," Terry cried. Sedra immediately noticed the pitch of his voice and knew he was teasing. She jabbed him with her fist. "Darn you, Terry. This isn't funny!" Sedra exclaimed. Terry slid his arms around her waist and gently pulled her to the floor and laid her on her back leaning over her. "Baby, we are going to be fine. Everything is going to work out. We are going to come out smelling like roses. I promise." "But the plans and dreams, Terry. What about the trip to the Alps? What about ..." Terry gently kissed her. "Sweetheart, the mountains will always be there. There are other dreams to live out and more important. Our family, for one. Besides, moving out west, I can buy that Dodge Ram truck that I've wanted since I was a teenager. We'll have a real home and a good place to raise our family. I think it is a better dream." Terry slid his hand in Sedra's hair and pulled her close again for a soft kiss. "It will be much dryer out there, won't it, Terry?" asked Sedra hating the northern weather. "Mmmmm...I don't know. We'll worry about that later," Terry said as he started to undress Sedra.
