Jack (The Wonder Dog)

I am the proud owner of Jack (The Wonder Dog), a Tenterfield Terrier who doesn't actually realise he is a dog.
Jack HATES the internet (even though he has his own home page), but loves going down to the creek and have Swanny throw the frisbee or his tennis ball.

Tenterfield Terriers may also be known as a Miniature Fox Terrier in other countries, but the Tenterfield Terrier Club of Australia is relatively new in Australia. As taken from information from the Tenterfield Terrier Club of SA Inc "an enthusiastic group of owners got together in August 1991 and formed the Miniature Fox Terrier Club of South Australia. Later that year a club was formed in Western Australia. Just under two years later the name of the breed was formally changed to Tenterfield Terrier and the two clubs united as members of the Tenterfield Terrier Club of Australia Inc., and as they quote "As our dogs are not actually a miniaturisation of the Standard Fox Terrier, to continue using the name Miniature Fox Terrier is both confusing and incorrect. The name Tenterfield was chosen by our members in a postal ballot."

The following pictures are in Thumbnail.  Click on the image to see a more detailed picture.

Jack at 8 weeks old with his Best Friend "Honey Bear"  Jack too small for his bed ... so he had to share with Honey Bear.
BTW - Honey Bear was RIP within a few short weeks of this picture.  (Well not really RIP - just his bow tie torn off, his ear tattered and some of his stuffing coming out of his throat.  And we eventually found the missing eye).
Jack ready for bed.   Us Tenterfield Terrier owners always wonder if our baby shall ever grow into their ears!!  They do eventually.

Jack at 13 months. Only a Tenterfield Terrier wishes to take on more than can be chewed.

Jack turned 1 whilst he and Swanny were having their first excellent adventure on the road in the campervan. (2 candles - 1 for his age and an extra "for luck".)
We visited my sister's property up Tamworth (NSW) way. He thought she was such a super Aunt to supply him with 200 acres and a herd of beef cattle to pass the time of day.

Tenterfield Terriers are "easy maintenance dogs". It is just a case of bath, towel dry and they are ready to go. This pic shows Jack being bathed in the desert town of Kalgoorlie (West Australia) during Kay and Swanny's "excellent adventure" (Mum shows more distress than Jack!)

If you ever choose to own a Tenterfield, there are things you should know:

  • They are hyperactive - however a small backyard is fine if you are prepared to throw a ball or a frisbee within the house when they are ready to exercise.
  • They are easy to train - but sooooo hard to untrain (i.e. getting them out of your bed) but who wants to... they save you turning on the electric blanket.
  • They love to watch TV - even though they may never have met an elephant in life, they know they can chase and kill that animal when they see it on TV.

Christmas is a special time in Swanny's house. Jack just loved playing Santa this particular year and he made sure we all got lots of special little gifts in our Christmas Stockings. He even made sure we left out carrots for the reindeers and some beer for Santa.
