Conan O'Brien: All right, everybody, we're back. Over the last few year, my next guest has won numerous awards including Golden Globe for Gia and George Wallace. She just earned another Golden Globe nomination for Girl, Interrupted which opens nationwide tomorrow. Let's take a look.

<<GI clip>>

CO: Please welcome Angelina Jolie.

CO: You are right?

Angelina Jolie: Nerve-wracking

CO: Why. Why so nervous?

AJ: I'll have to take these people home with me.

CO: It's a cable wresting show now.

AJ: I love you, too. [someone in the audience yelled out that they loved her]

CO: What did you do to your hair? This is cool.

AJ: Blue... the red, the blue.

CO: Goes together.

AJ: All over

CO: [Growls] I won't do that again I promise. Can't back it up. You have… I was watching... first of all, congratulations… this is cool… the nomination for the Golden Globe.

AJ: Yeah. I'm paying them off.

CO: It's nice. It's a nice thing.

AJ: It's really nice.

CO: I actually the movie last night, and you're character really stands out. I mean, you… you do a great job
with this character. The characters you play in the movies that I have seen you do, I don't know if it's just me, but there… they're very intimidating. They're on the edge. Don't you think they're intimidating characters?

AJ: Maybe it's just you.

CO: It might just be me. I was intimidated by Fantasia.

AJ: Oh, I don't know. I can't imagine that. I think... I don't think you're as decent as you seem.

CO: Why, whatever are you talking about.

AJ: Andy knows.

Andy: Yeah, I know.

CO: Andy's seen me.

Andy: Yeah I know, but I'm saving it for a book.

CO: Please don't write that book. Just wait a little while

Andy: Make it worth my while.

CO: You mean that you don't buy this façade? You don't buy this guy…

AJ: It's a little like decent Catholic school boy, kind of... two seconds away from a rubber dress.. Oh, yeah.

CO: You're actually late. Rubber dress was years ago.

AJ: There's a hay loft in the back. What is that?

CO: We're getting to that. We're getting to that. Stay tuned for the hay loft. We're threatening to turn the show
into Hee Haw at any moment. Do you think guys like… do you think that's what is boiling under the surface of guys like this?

AJ: I hope so

CO: Yeah. Good. Because, otherwise, that would be pretty sad.

AJ: Yeah, everybody's … everybody's' gotta be just more than they are. I think we're all just a little repressed.
We're all held back a little. We need to be a little more free.

CO: I am not just a little repressed.

AJ: I think you need help.

CO: I am the national spokesman for repression. We'll work on it though.

AJ: We will.

CO: I was reading a lot of stuff about you today. And one of articles... they always say where it takes place. One of the articles said, we caught up with Angelina Jolie at a cigar bar. Now, I was curious. Do you hang out in cigar bars? I know it's a new trend.

AJ: It's so hard not to make a joke right now, isn't it?

CO: Why?

AJ: I can't smoke cigars without playing with them.

CO: Hmm... Throwing them around, playing darts?

AJ: Innocent

CO: Yeah, right. I know it's a craze right now. I know there a lot of guys that are into going to cigar bars and stuff like that. I just didn't know if women were into it, too.

AJ: Yeah.

CO: Okay.

AJ: Whatever you can... where ever you can get a cigar.

CO: Okay. Let it go. Let's talk about the movie. Now, in this movie, it takes place in a mental hospital. When I saw the movie, I didn't realize you guys used a real mental hospital.

AJ: Yeah. It was amazing to shoot there. It's amazing to be in a place like that, just to be with these people that are separated from society. You're suppose to think these people are normal and these people aren't. I couldn't tell the difference between these people and the crew.

CO: We use the insane here, too.

AJ: The amazing thing is… we see these people. We're changing... They're inside, and they've been on medication. These people were all dealing with reality as carefully as we can. We're out there painting the grass green. Then the next day, we're making it snow. It's winter. I ran into one person. They said, 'where is the real Whoopi Goldberg?' And I saw Winona Ryder. Is that Winona Ryder? Is it snowing? They were so... because it's like it looks so strange to see Winona Ryder walking by and have… it was just… it was such a weird... we were changing the season. We were just… we were completely insane. And they, by the end of it, I'm sure, thought they were fine.

CO: Right. I think... it's kind of unfair to the people in a mental institution to make it snow fake snow. "It's not snowing. It's fake snow."

AJ: For them to be near a film set is very, very strange. It was an amazing place to be, just to be confined with people for that long. You just get to know each other on this amazing… it's just with the other girls who were amazing.

CO: Yeah, it's a good cast

AJ: Everybody.

CO: And Whoopi… one thing… I know it's a quick visual. But Whoopi's hair… I know it takes place... the movie takes place in 1968. This giant… it's huge in this thing. Do we have a still of Whoopi's hair in its? She's keeping her luggage in there.

AJ: I'm not really one to talk right now am I?

CO: I think it looks good. It's cool. I like the blue hair.

AJ: Thank you.

CO: What's wrong with the blue hair?

AJ: No. I love… yeah I just love… I just dig her. She's just funny. She's great... her hair her everything.

CO: You were nominated for the Golden Globe. You gotta go to the ceremony. Are you bothered at all by having to pass by Joan River, that whole fashion thing they do at awards shows now?
AJ: I am, actually. I have avoided Joan Rivers for a while. I go to her daughter, because I don't… I don't want to hurt here.

CO: I think she'll avoid you now, too.

AJ: You know...

CO: Hurt her?

AJ: I think she's actually… I'm sure she's a… you know, it's comedy. It's humor. It's because of criticizing things that people are actually careful about what they wear. It just… it creates repression.

CO: Which is where I come in… with my suit and tie. You don't look like you're bothered by that. You will wear what you want to wear. You don't seem like someone who would be bothered by that.

AJ: I wear the same thing every day

CO: What? What do you like to go out in?

AJ: Leather. That's about it. Thank you.

CO: Would that be the Married with Children audience here tonight. Always nice when they can stop by. Girl, Interrupted opens nationwide tomorrow. Congratulations. You do a great job with this movie. Angelina Jolie everybody.
