Brittney Cleary
Most kids love to instant-message friends, but Brittney Cleary just might be the world's first person to sing about it! Packed with popular bits of IM lingo such as BRB (Be Right Back) and LOL (Laugh Out Loud), her tune is winning rave reviews from listeners downloading it over the Internet.
A song about instant messaging has made this 13-year-old an instant hit!
It was all the beginning!
"I have always sang- as far back as I can remember. I didn’t get serious about it until I was 11 (just last year). My Grandma used to take me to karaoke restaurants and the crowds loved me. Then my parents came to see me and they couldn’t believe the reaction. After a lot of encouragement they decided to bring me Nashville, TN (music city) to begin training"
Influences
"Shania Twain- she’s not only a great singer but she writes a lot of her own music (actually most of it). She also is very down to earth. Even though she is a Super Star she still is very down to earth. I look up to Shania and admire her."
Something To Call Her Own
"I am very interested in writing my own material. I have a couple of songs that I have started that I put aside for now. My new record probably won’t have any of this material but I hope that my next record will."
Social Gathering
"I’ve met a lot of famous people-singers, musicians, producers and record people. It’s really cool. Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle (who happen to be sisters, but I met them at separate times) are probably the most down to earth. I was impressed because they talked with me like they knew me for a long time and were so warm and friendly."
The Secret's Out
"Most of my friends know about my career now and they think it is really cool. Whenever possible my parents let friends come to my gigs, or photo shoots - whatever I may be doing and they enjoy themselves as much as me. I’m kinda quiet about my career I don’t really go around bragging. When I’m with my friends I’m just Brittney and I do whatever we are doing at the time".
School -VS- Career
"I have been really fortunate to be able to balance both schoolwork and my career. My middle school has been real supportive. There have been many of times that I would need to do an interview during school hours so they would help me and give me the space to do it so I wouldn’t have to take time off from school. I love going to school but I know when this year ends, at the end of May, that it will be over for me. My career is moving so fast that it is going to impossible for me to physically be in school. Of course, I will still do schoolwork but it will be from home or wherever I might be.
Through Britney's Eyes
"The way we speak doesn’t change but the way we communicate is changing. It is awesome how I can talk to my friends that are miles away. It really helps when I’m on the road to still have the communication with my friends. As much as I cherish my career I also cherish being a kid. IMing helps me to stay in touch and still be a part of my friend’s lives and me be a part of theirs even when I am so far away"
The Future
"I can only hope that I follow in the footsteps of Shania Twain and have the long career that Madonna has. Since I’m only 13, I have my whole life to figure things out but for right now I hope that as my career is taking off I can keep grounded and keep making music that everyone can enjoy. I hope that in five years (when I’m 18) I can be an inspiration to other young artists."
