LUPUS    ~Fighting the Wolf~

In
1998 Howies sister Caroline passed away due to complications with a disease called Lupus.
It wasn't until early last year that I even knew what Lupus was, and now I know of 4 people who are close to me who suffer with the disease.
Lupus means Wolf in Latin, and there are many people in this world who suffer from this disease.

So What is Lupus?

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease with an unknown cause.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease. Our bodies antibodies normally defend the body against disease. Lupus causes the body to produce antibodies that attack its own tissue.

Lupus can be a life threatening disease and can affect every organ in the body.

It strikes women far more often than men, and is most common among women of child bearing age.

Lupus can come in many stages, from mild to quite serious and can cause arthritis and kidney inflammation
