GENERAL INFO:
These lizards are assertive by nature. Although some of them might be sweet and well tempered, alligator lizards are usually not the best choice for the beginner.

SIZE:
Adult lenght up to 20."

NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Alligator lizards are insectivorous. ( Eat mainly insects ) Insects should be dusted with a vitamin/calcium powder.
They are voracious cricket eaters and can eat up to 40 crickets a week. They enjoy mealworms and waxworms, but prefer crickets the most. They should not be fed rolly polly, slugs, earthworms, or earwigs.
~A shallow water bowl is necessary to provide all of the humidity needed.
~Water should be changed daily.

Daytime Temperature 75*-85*
Basking-lamp Temperature 95*-105*
Nighttime Temperature 60*-75*

~The humidity for these lizards should be kept at or near 55%.

CAPTIVE ENVIRONMENT:
Individuals can be maintained in a 20 gallon aquarium.

Use a full spectrum 5% UVB lighting 12-14 hours per day.
Provide at least one basking area with access to a cooler area.
A shelter for hiding is necessary.
To keep proper humidity levels, it is important to mist the habitat occasionally.

SUBSTRATE/BEDDING:
2" to 3" of bark ( repti-bark ) is recommended for alligator lizard terrariums.
