COMMON NAME: Bearded Dragon SCIENTIFIC NAME: Pogona Vitticeps GENERAL INFO: These unique desert lizards can be long-lived pets if maintained properly. They are probably the best choice for a beginner, because of their attentive personality and mellow tempermant. SIZE: Adult length up to 24." NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: These lizards are omnivores. (Which means they eat both plant and animal matter.) Their main diet consists of crickets, locosts, waxworms and pinkies. Also dandelions, mustard, turnip and cabbage. Offer a variety for proper nutrition. ~These lizards require only a small water dish for drinking. ~Water should be changed daily. |

TEMPERATURE/HUMIDITY: Daytime Temperature 80*-85* Basking-lamp Temp. 90*-93* Nighttime Temperature 65*-75* ~These lizards require 8-10 hours of ultraviolet light.~ CAPTIVE ENVIRONMENT: Individual dragons can be maintained in a 35-50 gallon terrarium. Use a full spectrum 5% UVB lighting 12-14 hours per day. Provide at least one basking area with access to a cooler area. A shelter for hiding is necessary. To keep proper humidity levels, it is important to mist the habitat occasionally. ~These lizards require only a small water dish for drinking. ~Water should be changed daily. SUBSTRATE/BEDDING: 2" to 3" of sand (repti-sand) is recommended for bearded dragon terrariums. |
