SWE is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that is the driving force, which establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

Membership is key to our Section’s vitality in the Asheville area.   If you are considering membership and are still feeling undecided think of these facts:

·   Undergraduate female enrollment in Engineering is less than 20%

·   Less than 11% of the Engineers employed in the US are female

·   Female engineers’ annual salaries are $2000 - $10,000 less than males with the same degree and years since they obtained their degree

·  Create a network of women in science and engineering to encourage and motivate prospective women in pursuing technical careers

·  Provide a regular forum for professional women to share and gain information on new technologies, leadership skills, personal successes and career development topics.

·  To assemble a section of diverse members who will foster the advancement and recognition of women in the technical field.

Whether you are an Engineer, work as one, going to school for Engineering or support our mission statement, you could be a member of SWE.
