Swinburne Scuba Club

Swinburne University Scuba Club is organised to provide students with the cheapest way to learn and participate in the sport of SCUBA diving, in a safe and responsible environment. Our equipment includes a towing vehicle, compressor trailer and five sets of SCUBA gear (including BCD, regulators and tanks). We provide subsidised diving oportunities in all parts of Victoria and on special occasions, around Australia.

Beginners training is held twice a year, and costs about $325. Held over two weekends and two week nights, opportunities to learn SCUBA at this price are very rare. Training is undertaken by professional PADI instructors to all levels, and club dives are always supervised by a Swinburne Univirsity Scuba Club boat-master to maintain the highest standard of safety. The club conducts SCUBA Video and Slide Nights and the odd social event where we always tend to get wet! So come and dive with Swinburne University Scuba Club and experience the fun and wonders of the underwater world.

The Swinburne Scuba Club (SSC) has been a high-profile club at Swinburne University for well over 20 years. The aim of the SSC is to provide training from beginners up to Divemaster level, as well as offering regular club activities for divers of all skill levels and interests. The Swinburne Scuba Club is extremely active in Port Phillip Bay, running dives from Portsea and Rosebud, around the Bay to Queenscliff and the Port Phillip Heads (or "The Rip"). Offering some of the most exhilarating diving in Australia, these areas attract divers and other water sports people from around the state. From pier dives to exciting deep-wreck dives this sport is extremely popular. Our six metre purpose fitted boat is a regular feature at the more popular dive-spots, and our high level of equipment always stands the club in high regard.

Swinburne Scuba Club is particularly proud of its activity record, offering dives every weekend over the summer season, and numerous extended trips throughout the year to various locations. Several years ago, a two week trip to a popular island in Queensland was organised, with 18 club members enjoying a memorable holiday, and attracting considerable interest from other holidayers. Our safety record is exemplary, with club activities always organised by an appropriately trained diver.
