The 'New' Lodgers page
First of all welcome.
Welcome to the
oldest and the best Order in The Unseen University, you have chosen well.

These pages contain a number of references that you will have to research to gather all the information you will need or want.  It was written during the first days of my term as Senior Wizard and so, if you are reading this at some time in the future, I hope it is still relevant.   Should you find any information that is now out of date then please let me know and I will update it for the benefit of all members of the Order.

History
We are the oldest of all the Orders in the university, over 1000 years old and are called the Lodgers because Mrs Widgery accommodated us before the residential hall was constructed at the Unseen University.  As Lodgers we have no magical specialisation but, instead, a general ability across most magical methods,
Our Order is based in the Unseen University but, every now and then rumours of plans to split the Orders apart and place them in different locations across the disc crop up but at the time of writing there are no plans for this that I am aware of.

The best?  I firmly believe we are the best Order in the Wizardly world, why? Because of the people who make up the Order.  I have never asked for help and advice and been ignored or refused.  It is the members of an Order who make it what it is, remember that when you hear a request.

OK, I joined the best order but what do I do now?
Well as the saying goes 'the Disc is your mollusc, me old mate'.   In the end what you do is up to you.  If, like me, you just didn't understand the other Orders, primaries, guild levels etc etc do not worry, I have jotted down a few notes that may or may not help.  If you need any advice ask the Senior Wizard or another member of the Order, if he/she doesn't know, he/she (enough political correctness from now on.. he) will find out and let you know.   This is a game so the most important thing you need to know above all other things is… HAVE FUN!

Now visit these two sites if you have not already done so, bookmark them too as you will be going back there many times.  Sekiri’s site is brilliant and gives a great overview of what being a wizard is all about and although much of it is still valid, it is now out of date.  Sined, at the time of writing our only ArchMage, has a great site too and it is constantly updated.  I cannot recommend both sites highly enough for the new wizard, there are others but go to these first.

Changing your Stats
There is a very nice outline of what Stats are all about and how they affect your skills on Sekiri’s site.  You should read this before thinking about using the ‘Rearrange’ command.

Think once, then think twice, before changing any Stat.  There is an excellent simulator at Flatlines site -
http://skills.gothmudders.com/ to show you the effect of changes to stats on your individual skills.  Ask yourself what it is you wish to change and why.  It may be that the skill can be improved by advancing it with XP or TM'ing it by repeated use of certain spells.  Remember for any advance of skills there is also a balancing loss of other skills when you change a stat.
If after rearranging you find that it was a mistake you can Refresh and start over or, if the mistake was not too bad, you can move one a stat point every 6 months at the local retrophrenologist in your town.  Like all things this has a cost and it increases each time you visit.
